Crusades Argument Script

Gentlemen, we are gathered here today to discuss the crusades with two distinguished speakers, who have born first hand witness of the Crusades. May I introduce, His Majesty King Richard I? (applause).

King Richard I: Thank you sir for your most kind introduction.

Gentlemen, this discussion would not be complete without the likes of the Sultan Saladin appointed by the Regent Caliph (most likely under threat of death).

Saladin: Thank you, err, narrator for this most insulting of introductions.

Gentlemen, may we begin. The format of this discussion is such: I shall ask King Richard I or Saladin a question and his adversary will respond.

During the first Crusade, those who took up the cross massacred the inhabitants Jerusalem. How does on justify such actions done under name of God and approved by the most infallible Papacy?

Richard • You are most correct in this sense; these murderous actions of many of the crusaders were inspired by the likes of Satan! However, despite the papal approval of the crusades, does not mean that these actions were approved by the Papacy. The Papacy accepted the outcomes, but did not necessarily approve of the means.

Saladin • It is said by those infidelious Christians that good may come out of the evilest of actions. But this does not necessarily mean that these evil actions were justified by the supposed good outcomes. Murder is always against the natural law of Allah. Might I speak of the hostility of the Christians against those of a different faith, the Moslems especially and even the Orthodox Christians whom the Catholics were supposedly aiding.
