Locking a page[edit]

Name calling will not be tolerated, Furthermore, you don't have the power to lock a page. I yawn in your general direction. WillC 02:27, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

MARYLAND[edit]

Maryland is not a northern state because it is below the Mason-Dixon Line. WillC 12:30, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia![edit]

I am a proud grandmother of five and a history and music enthusiast. I worked for thirty-five years as a middle school history teacher in the Baltimore area and currently reside in Elizabeth's Landing, Maryland. I retired in 2004.

Hello Joan53, welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips:

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks, User:Alphax/sig 01:23, Mar 21, 2005 (UTC)

Your RFA[edit]

Hi your RFA was removed because you did it wrong, I advise you not do to a RFA into you get a few months of active editing and about 2,000 edits under your belt and a userpage as we do have RFA standards and currently your RFA won't pass with under 50 edits. I hope you understand :) Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 02:46, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship[edit]

I saw you attempted to nominate yourself for adminship. Instructions on how to do this are located here, also read the admin's reading list, and the how-to guide. I strongly suggest you also read people's admin criteria. Not to discourage you, but I suggest you wait a while before attempting to become an administrator, I edited Wikipedia for over 6 months before I was granted adminship. Good luck, and happy editing.

FYI, to fix your nom page, remove the nowiki tags. Prodego talk 02:53, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at how its going, it might be easier for you just to withdraw (you can do this by striking out the vote here and writing withdrawn on the page) - nothing against new users but you don't have much chance in passing an RfA, and it might be easier to withdraw at this point, on the other hand, welcome to Wikipedia and if there is anything we can do for you just give us (or me) a shout! -- Tawker 03:49, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see that your RfA request has been closed early by a 'crat. Don't take it too hard, please. Essjay did what was best for you and the project at this stage in your activities, (your wikicareer if you like) here. People look for certain qualities when they choose admins, among them experience, measured in time and number of good edits across many different areas, and understanding of how things are done. Keep contributing, learn the ways here, and if you're still interested in a few months, and interested for the right reasons (some felt maybe you were interested because you wanted to protect a particular page... that's not how things are done here) try again. Most people won't hold that you tried before against you. Best wishes. No reply needed but if you do, here is fine, I'll see it. ++Lar: t/c 12:47, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with all the comments above. There's a lot of great people here at Wikipedia and plenty of work to do. Throw yourself into a project or two here and have fun. When you get enough experience, come back to the RfA page and try again. Best, --Alabamaboy 15:02, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Misuse of protection tags[edit]

Page protection -- and therefore use of protection tags -- are part of an administrator's toolkit, which you do not have access to. If you want to protect a page, go to WP:RPP and ask an admin: simply slapping a {{protected}} tag on an page does nothing whatsoever -- except fool people not looking too closely. --Calton | Talk 23:58, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

it had been deleted without being discussed.

From Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#Articles:

Unremarkable people or groups/Vanity Pages. An article about a real person, group of people, band, or club that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject. If the assertion is disputed or controversial, it should be taken to AFD instead.

The article certainly qualified on that score. See also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information:

Genealogical entries, or phonebook entries. Biography articles should only be for people with some sort of fame, achievement, or perhaps notoriety. One measure of publicity is whether someone has been featured in several external sources (on or off-line). Less well-known people may be mentioned within other articles...
--Calton | Talk 05:00, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
P.S.: I found this edit of yours, this response, and your abortive RFA. Your statement I was not aware that granting protection is the exclusive ability of administrators suddenly looks less than sincere: please note the Ground Rules on my Talk Page. --Calton | Talk 05:12, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And did you happen to see why my Administrator Application was rejected? I filled out the form incorrectly Well, no, as anyone reading the page link I provided above can see -- again, a statement of yours at variance with reality. First rule of holes: when you find yourself in one, stop digging. --Calton | Talk 05:43, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Stop digging and read the thing you quoted at me: Hi your RFA was removed because you did it wrong, I advise you not [to do an] RFA [until] you get a few months of active editing and about 2,000 edits under your belt... Note it does NOT in any way, shape, or form mention "fill[ing] out the form incorrectly". Nor does anything on the RFA page mention in any way, shape, or form "fill[ing] out the form incorrectly". You're asking me to believe that you have massive trouble understanding not only basic Wikipedia policies you should already know but ordinary declarative sentences as well? Are you sure you want to go there?
You know, I'm trying to have an honest conversation with you and you're just being arrogant. You've made me skeptical of that, frankly, but if numerous pointers and quotes to Wikipedia policies and guidelines, and to statements that contradict your claims makes me arrogant, then that must make me the most offending soul alive. As for my irritation, see my Talk Page Ground Rule #5. --Calton | Talk 06:26, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

You want a discussion? You've got a discussion: see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Leader of the Eyre/Heller Dynasty in the United States.

The hoaxing will stop[edit]

Any more of this hoax crap at Aria, Knowlton Estate, Eyre/Heller garbage, and you will be permanently banned from editing. Is that clear? User:Zoe|(talk) 16:12, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits are hoaxes. You know it, I know it, we all know it. You have been warned, no matter what userid you post under. User:Zoe|(talk) 01:34, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppetry[edit]

Hello, I am User: History21. I do not know if you are aware, but you and I have been implicated, along with a third user, of some sort of sockpuppetry ring. User: Zoe and User: Hipocrite are leading an attempt to portray me as a vandal, and they seem to believe (or purport to believe) that you are a sockpuppet of mine. I would greatly appreciate your weighing in on this debate, as I feel that a statement from one of the "sockpuppets" would help to clear the air. I intend to message the other user as well.

I love it when sock puppets get together to pretend innocence. It gives a little shiver down my spine. I am glad you got caught history/joan whatever. As I see you have basically been supporting eachothers hoaxes this entire time. --Darkfred Talk to me 21:00, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
