Greetings[edit]

It's been a few months, but I just stumbled across the Sonja Graf article you created. It's well written and very interesting. Thanks for your contribution. Quale 21:35, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I'd just like to echo Quale's remarks; hopefully you'll write some more articles in the future. You'll see from the various suggested articles at Wikipedia:WikiProject Chess that we are short of a number of woman player biographies and a lot more besides. Also - thanks for all the great chess photos you've put on the web. I must confess that I've posted a few of them here on Wikipedia. Brittle heaven (talk) 00:51, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ACA[edit]

Hi, thanks for chiming in on Talk:American Chess Association. Also, I wanted to say thank you for the excellent resources you have put online at batgirl.atspace.com. You may be interested in Wikipedia:WikiProject Chess, and s:Wikisource:Chess; the latter is over on our sister project Wikisource, and has been a pet project of mine to put online all of the important pieces of chess history. Gisela Gresser[edit]

What is the source of this:

When she died at age 94, the USCF still had her listed:
Gresser, Gisela Kahn (WIM) USA 2090.

I looked at the issue of CL with her obit, and I didn't see it. Also, her last rating, according to MSA, was 1937 (last rated game was from 1991). If this was on the USCF website somewhere, if it's still there, we can cite it, but if it isn't, we can't. Bruce leverett (talk) 20:00, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I found the source of the 2090; it's her last FIDE rating, according to Olimpbase. Her first FIDE rating, in 1972 when FIDE ratings for women were first computed, was 2065; she lost some points during the 1970's, then got 100 free points in 1986-7, then lost a few more (when she was about 80 years old).
So I know what this last sentence means. Usually, we do not give a person's peak FIDE rating in the text of the article, but there is a place for it in the Infobox. I will look into creating an infobox for this article. Bruce leverett (talk) 04:30, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
