Brittany Murphy and the Stallone movies[edit]
I saw that you dropped that bit from the article because she was written out during the autumn. Do you have a source for that info? If so, could you direct me to it so we can add that to the article instead? If not, I'm going to restore the New York Times bit, which obviously was sourced. The article "fiducial probability" (sic.) has a number of problems. The most egregious is the use of the term "confidence distribution", which is a contradiction in terms. The term "confidence" is used precisely to warn that the number is not the probability of the (particular data-set's) confidence-interval covering the true value. Students are warned of this in the first course in statistics.
The confused discussion in the article on "fiducial probability" (sic.) arises when one of the incoherencies of Fisher's "theory" is acknowledged: That the resulting so-called "fiducial probability distribution" (sic.) is not a probability distribution. Then there is a citation to a throw-away remark in a recent unreferreed book by David R. Cox, which is alleged to state that something called a "confidence distribution" isn't a distribution either.
Regardless of what Cox wrote, the straw-man is that the confidence be a probability, a falsehood denied for over a hundred years.
Then there original research/point-of-view showing that Cox's remark shows the whole discussion is moot. This OR/POV statements are what motivated me to flag the article.
