Recategorizations on Metroid articles.

Hi, I'd like to talk about your recategorization of various Metroid articles. I notice that you're adding the categories "Nintendo characters", "Metroid", and "Video game characters" to a lot of them. Well, the thing is, the category "Metroid characters" encompasses all of these categories. "Metroid characters" is a subcategory of "Nintendo characters", which is a subcategory of "Video game characters", and "Metroid". Adding these categories is redundant and unnecesary. Jean Grey as fictional elemental?

I don't think Jean Grey qualifies as a fictional elemental. The Phoenix Force has never really been called a fire elemental, has it? And what with the "Jean was never Phoenix" retcon, one could argue even if the Force were a fire elemental, Jean never was. At most she was linked to the Force.

I've seen the phoenix referred to as a sort of primal force of the universe, the embodiment of life itself. I never meant as a fire elemental. I don't think the phrase "life elemental" was used though. CyberSkull 08:52, 2005 Jun 4 (UTC)

Chrono Media

Hey,

I am just letting you know, i undid all of the changes to chrono media items by adding Category:Square media to the page. All of those images belonged to Category:Chrono media which is a sub cat of the category you added. Use of Category:Computer and video games

Hi! Thank you for adding the infobox to the article on Children of the Nile. I had no idea this was available.

I wanted to let you know I added back the category "computer and video games". I notice that many but not all games are categorized this way. Perhaps there is a systematic effort underway to make all title articles accessible? I did go ahead and add the game to the list. Also, there is no category "city building games". Ok I created the new subcategory "City building games" (per your edit) under existing subcategory "Computer and video game genres" which is under master category "Computer and video games". You said: Game articles are usually categorized by platform, year of release, company and even by franchise. But game articles are also categorized by genre, yes? MusicBrainz

To avoid stepping on each others' toes and duplicating stuff, I've converted Template:Musicbrainz to Template:Musicbrainz track in the same style as your templates... Use it well (and often) ;-) --Azertus 19:32, 15 August 2005 (UTC)

I also noticed you created Template:musicbrainz wiki box. This is currently not accepted by the Wikipedia community IIRC (it looks good though). I read not long ago that only sister projects recieved the box treatment. There are even editors who don't like the use of images in templates like Musicbrainz artist/album/track (they were taken off the IMDb template)... --Azertus 10:50, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

Categories would be ok, however it should probably be something like Category:MusicBrainz listed artist, Category:MusicBrainz listed album & Category:MusicBrainz listed track. Whatever the category is, the spelling has to be "MusicBrainz", with a capita M & B ;). As for the images, I just put them on because MB explicitly allows people to use them to link to MB. The Category again

Just because the category survived VFD doesn't mean I am not trying to do something to the category. As a matter of fact, only you and one other person straight voted to keep it.. everyone else voted to "keep if renamed" or "delete or rename". WhisperToMe 02:14, 27 August 2005 (UTC)

hi... regarding Template:Infobox Warcraft character

regarding Template:Infobox Warcraft character... sorry i didnt document it properly... anyway i copied it from Template:Star Wars character...

parameters:

IMAGE - is the code to display the character's image (insert a html comment if no image yet)
BGCOLOR/FGCOLOR - background color and foreground color (i copied from star wars' infobox... supposed to be the background color and foreground color of the infobox)...
GENDER - character gender: Male/Female
RACE - character race: e.g. Orc/Night Elf
CHARACTER - the character of the unit in the game: e.g. Death Knight/Paladin
AFFILIATION - who is the character aligned with: e.g. The Horde/ The Nathrezim
OCCUPATION - role of character: e.g. Frostwolf Clan Chieftain, etc.

About language templates

Why did you make Template:User la-1 link to Latin in the left frame? As far as I can tell none of the other language templates do this. Neither do any of the other User la-* templates. So, if you want to make la-1 do that, you may as well make 2, 3, 4, and native do that too. Or, if you have no objections, I'd prefer the link removed. (The template already says latinitate; people should have a fairly good idea from that alone, don't you think?) Regards, Andyluciano 01:26, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

Okay, as I've seen no response I've reverted this change. I also don't agree with your other babel edits (you seem to have created templates for each of your -- and only your -- computing interests. I would consider myself a c-N and an sh-N and a bsd and a w3m and a firefox but you don't see me creating templates for all of those. Love the template!

CyberSkull, I love your {{User language subcategory}} template. I normally consider myself an expert at template editting, but there's a small error and I cannot figure out how to fix it. On the category pages, the language code in the box on the left has an extra space in it (it says "en -3" instead of "en-3"). Templatized Babel for other Wikipedian categories

Hi there. I kind of like your 'blank' templates, with their color coding. (~~Was it your idea, or did you copy it from elsewhere in Babel?~~ Never mind, I should check these kinds of things before I say something.) I think Hégésippe has a point about the {sub,}category templates, though: there probably shouldn't be interwikis in the template.

Template: User py

You changed the colours over to a green scheme. I think they should be reverted back to a blue set (like I had it set to) in line with other programming language templates (ref: Template: User php-3). Thoughts? -- Palfrey 12:56, 7 September 2005 (UTC)

The color system I copied is from the lang series, green being the appropriate one for that user level. See templates {{User en}}, {{User en-0}}, {{User en-1}}, {{User en-2}}, {{User en-3}} and {{User en-4}}. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 13:49, 2005 September 7 (UTC)

Messy template category

Hi. I see you discovered what we're doing over in Category:User instruments. You added Category:Wikipedian musicians to {{User instrument}}. I understand it's logical to put a user in that category based on their playing an instrument. However, doing this will eventually result in the category being spammed with every single template that uses this template (and there are dozens with more on the way), albeit not immediately (each one only appears there once it's edited again); they already appear in the User * categories and don't need to show up elsewhere. It's cleaner to just require a user to add the category manually. Thank you. Ddawson 02:19, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I was gonna delete some of the images you listed at IFD, but noticed that some of the Commons images had a tag that said "This file was tagged for being under a free license, but is missing information required for that license" (basically, "Who made this logo, and is there any reason to think it's GFDL?"). Font sizes for babel boxes -- Templates the answer?

Noticed you reverted the font change to Template:User re-2... I was trying to make all the font sizes match (as you might notice, looks a tad ugly with them all random sizes!), which is why I changed re-2 and the like... But quickly gave up, as there's way too many of them!

I'm thinking of replacing all them with a template, i.e. {{userproglang-2|re|regular expression|Regular expression}}, so only one place needs to be edited to change the appearance of all -2 programming language boxes... (instead of the current situation, which seems to be massively cut-and-paste based). But since you seem to also be working on these, figured I should get your opinion first.

What do you think? Extra server load, using templates instead of subst? Not needed? Wait until there's a bot to automagically generate the templates and categories instead of doing it by hand, given the language code, language name, and article? Any ideas?

Self-references

I believe that the bulk of your recent edits at Criticism of Wikipedia go the wrong way. Wikipedia:Avoid self-references discourages links from articles into Wikipedia space. The problem with them is that a mirror site that only includes the encyclopedia pages (which is typical) gets a bunch of dead links. -- Jmabel | Talk 05:54, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

Category:Computer and video game templates on CFD

Hi - thought I should tell you that I've just taken Category:Computer and video game templates to Wikipedia:Categories for deletion. The category is an incredibly bad idea. I can see what you wee trying to do, but the way you have done it will not work. A better way is to create a subpage for the project or a section of the project's page, with links to each of the templates (which is what all other wikiprojects do). If you put a category label on a template, then any page that uses that template will also go into the category the next time it is edited. Soon you will have a category full of templates, articles which use any of those templates, and stubs which were previously sorted into separate categories. The whole thing will be a huge mess and will take a LOT of work to sort out. Grutness...wha? 05:18, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

Anne Onymous and Robin Ericson

I redirected these two to the comic that they write. You've reverted them. Was there really any point? What do people know about someone who uses the pseudonym Anne Onymous? The author obviosuly does not want people knowing who he or she really is, what have they done other than The Wotch? There wasn't anything in their respected articles that were not in the main article at The Wotch. Infobox codes

Hello there. I noticed your infobox code for Template:Infobox_television and wondered what the "infobox code" is all about. I have created an infobox but it seems like you need a code for it to be used on a page (otherwise the infobox is on the page and you can't edit it). Ghost in the Shell: Kanji

Can I ask why you changed the standard # codes for the kanji in the Ghost in the Shell article to the actual kanji characters? Not all peoples machines will display the actual characters without the coding for them. Ben W Bell 19:47, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

Yes but isn't it true that not everyone and all browsers will read that properly unless they have the right unicode pack installed? If that is the case then it should be converted back as Wikipedia should be about as wide an audience as possible rather than easier editing for that kind of thing. Ehm, sorry for interruptiong this discussion but, if what Ben says is correct then Unicode should not be supported at all, what is the purpouse of Unicode if it should never be used? But, by implementing Unicode, Wikimedia is showing their intention to use it. This may sound rude but if someone can't read unicode it's their fault, Unicode is an open standard isn't it? Now if we were talking about closed standards, nobody should be forced to adopt (e.g. buy) those. --Requiem the 18^th_(email)

Wikimedia software sends an alert for anyone using a browser that does not support unicode when editing. Furthermore it temporarily converts such characters into hexadecimal entities for that edit. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 09:01, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

Creating those two redirects was not appreciated at all. Template redirects are a bad thing and so all you've done is add at least one more template to be deleted, two if the proposal to rename should fail, tho if we follow the usual conventions it shouldn't. Caerwine 02:10, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Ghost in the Shell template

I noticed you reverted my edit on Template:Ghost in the Shell because you feel the Ghost in the Shell article isn't about the movie. It is about the movie and should be, although it's been bastardized to include information about the whole series. A working link is far better than a red link. If you really want an article specific to the film again, I suggest you create a Ghost in the Shell (series) or similar article and merge the extraneous information in the Ghost in the Shell article, and then recover the Ghost in the Shell article to be primarily about the movie with small reference to the rest of the series, maybe with a link at the top to Ghost in the Shell (series). I understand that you might think having a red link in the template might prompt someone else to write the article, but Wikipedia is better served with an actual link to an article that does discuss the movie in some detail. Actually the article should be about the original manga, since it came before the movie, but since the article started out about the movie and evolved into an article about the series we should really copy the elements of the film out and put it in it's own article. FFbestiary images

I know that I might've been the one known for uploading mass of images to this article in the past, but now, per Fair use law, as mentioned on the Wikiproject Final Fantasy talk page, there should not be more than 15 images per game in the whole Final Fantasy bestary article, meaning from A-Z and then again, they need to be commented and 15 might even be too much considering that we're talking about more than 10 games on those pages. So I think you should stop, just like I did, uploading images like Ice Flan, unless you're using them for another good reason. I noticed your new page on DVD Player. Because of the likelihood of confusion with the article DVD player, I have moved your new page to DVD Player (Apple). DVD Player now redirects to DVD player (the hardware) which in turn has a disambiguation link to DVD Player (Apple).

Mario series template

Someone has been messing with the formatting of Template:Mario series, and I've been reverting back to your unicode version of the template. Unfortunately it seems the unicode is getting lost in the reversion (which is odd considering I'm using Firefox 1.5, and I was pretty sure it had unicode support). Can you–

Revert it to your unicode version?
Explain why reverting it discards the unicode?

Why did you move D. C. Simpson back to David Craig Simpson?

I moved David Craig Simpson to D. C. Simpson because, as I understand it it, the artist is most commonly known by that name. After that, he is most commonly called David Simpson. The page was called David Simpson before it was changed to avoid ambiguity. I have rarely seen his name written in full, so I believe the abbreviated form, which he himself prefers, is more appropriate.

Final Fantasy XII characters

CyberSkull, I understand why you reverted the individual articles about Final Fantasy XII characters (Ashe, Vaan, et al.), but I would like to draw your attention to WP:FICT. Specifically, the first section, which discusses how fictional characters are to be handled on Wikipedia. You can take a look yourself, but the gist of it is that there are two acceptable reasons for having articles devoted to individual fictional characters: either that character is a cultural icon, transcending their work of origin, or information about that character is too lengthy to fit in a general list. Neither of these can be applied to any of the Final Fantasy XII articles. In the future, when more information and/or the game itself has been released, these articles might be necessary, but until then, they belong together in a singular list. I ask you once again: what, at this point in time, is present in the Ashe article that is not present in Ashe's entry at List of Final Fantasy XII characters that warrants a seperate article? The only information present there is speculation about character design that is baldly unencyclopedic original research and speculation. Even with that section, the length of the entry is still only 425 words, and articles of comparative length can and have been merged into lists before (the Kefka entry at List of Final Fantasy VI characters, for instance, is 421 words). Furthermore, the consensus from the Final Fantasy WikiProject was to merge the individual character articles for Final Fantasy XII for the time being. The single nowrap was on the row header, which is a strictly set length, not on the variable content. Adding BR's is the "evil", not the nowrap as designed. As for the pipe, it is only necessary when most do not use a particular parameter, forcing visibility of a particular structure and the visibility of the given variable. Images on Commons with strange license

Why are these two images: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Azureus.png and http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Azureus_torrent.png licensed as GNU GPL? It's not software, so it makes little sense to do this. Isn't the copyright still retained by the original author of the logo? What about the second one; if I'm not mistaken, it's the Azureus logo on a Mac OS X file icon; that's definitely not a free resource. Hello. I'm sorry to say that using uppercase Greek letters is not only bad idea, but it is also wrong. And yeah, I read it 'Y' too ;). We gain nothing using uppercase Greek letters, so let's not use them (I already reverted your move). However, I think it's ok to use Greek letters in the article text; if the Greek letter looks unfamiliar, just hover the mouse pointer over the link and the full name pops up (like here: α Centauri). So what is the right way to edit a user page? Yes I know general wikiquette is to not edit other people's userpages, but it's not forbidden. I saw something that violated policy, so I fixed it (and many other gallery pages). Explaining the reason (IMHO politely) both in the edit summary and on your talkpage. Anyway if it's any comfort I can inform you that point #1 in our "rant" is no longer the case,linked images produce redlinks like any other page now, Image:See this image doesn't exist and is a redlink.jpg. As for wasting your hard work, sorry but it can't be helped. The amount of work that has gone into something can't be a factor in wether or not it should be allowed on the site, and if you where allowed to keep your fair use galleries (the two biggest in the whole userspace) then others would be much harder to convince to remove theyrs, and the ban on fair use from userspace would be hollowed out and made powerless. File format infobox in plist is not appropriate. Read the rest of the article. The "format" is not "owned" by Apple nor is it extended from XML. What a plist is is a serialization of an NSDictionary. The serialization may be realized in different ways in the file, and there are currently three different file formats supported by Mac OS X and GNUstep that can be used for plists. Renaming templates

Re this edit and other redirects - please do not rename a bunch of templates without asking on a talk page first. Template:R from other capitalisation has almost 1000 uses while I can't find any uses of Template:R from other capitalization. The "s" spelling is also used for the category, and in Wikipedia:Redirect. When you suggested that I was guilty of deletion abuse, I felt that you were not assuming good faith. It's no big deal, because we have the tools to work things out here with discussion, but I'm troubled at the thought that your first assumption might be that a 'rouge admin' (as the meme phrase goes) is out abusing his/her delete button.

A suggestion, be direct. If you think people are doing abusive edits, call 'em on it, but invest a little in conversation first. In the case of a new user, it might be the difference between creating a helpful contributor or scaring off a well meaning newbie. I noticed you added Apple File Security with it's icon [[Image:Apple File Security.png|right|Apple File Security]] to the list History but there is no file for the icon. Were you planning on adding the image latter? Also the Mac OS 9 and earlyer icons had look out of place so i changed all of them to [[Image:???.png|16px]] from [[Image:???.png|right|]] Althou it may make thoes OS9 and earlier icons smaller and harder to see and not stand out, I feel it might look nicer having less things pop out. PNG is pretty good for screenshots, particularly computer screens as it does not loose detail like JPEG does. Older system UIs that confine their interfaces to limited palettes are particularly suited to PNG. Look at the Mac screenshots category for examples of what I am talking about. Gamecube Pics

Please don't revert the edits on the Gamecube Pics again!

If you see for yourself, the Article has too many damn pictures, and when uploading a picture, it cleary shows only 1 picture per article! (Although people don't carely listen to that, so I won't judge/ or pick on this one!)

Second, If you look at other articles relating to consoles, you will notice, they havn't got that much damn pictures. And this article features 17 damn pictures! This article an't special you know!

Third, pictures need to be deleted, because there is about 4 damn pictures featuring Mario games, 4 sets of pictures making it 17.

I will clear out the pictures now and only leave 10 pictures! Which means I will delete 7 unuseful pictures ...please when replying, list the pictures you don't want me to delete

Hi, I see you reverted my MusicIP Mixer removal from the MusicBrainz page because "It contributes data to MB". Can you please explain me this? I think I know something about this MusicIP/MusicDNS/PUID stuff, and as I said in my edit comment - MusicIP Mixer doesn't use nor contribute any data to MB. Fair use

I am very concerned about the number of copyrighted images that have been uploaded to illustrate Warcraft (Category:Warcraft media). There are a couple of things you should remember:

Fair Use usage should be kept to a minumum and should only be used when absolutely necessary, see WP:FUC.
For Warcraft sub-articles, this means there should be at most one picture per page.
Images should be of a suitable low resolution - that is web resolution so probably less than 600px.

Although many of claims may be legal, Wikipedia is primarily about providing a free resource, and polluting it with hundreds of copyright images is not particularly helpful most of the time. Please just bear in mind that templates such as fairuse and game-screenshot are not a carte blanche to add copyright images whereever you like. ed g2s • talk 17:06, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Tagging images as {{opaque}}

If you look at previous versions of Image:Stardockcompanylogo.png, you can see that I did indeed upload an image in that format. It looked like crap on IE6, though, so I replaced it. I could upload an 8-bit transparent version but then it'll look bad if it's on anything except white anyway, since the grey of the shadow fades to white. Your "usage" info messed temporal templates

Hello. Please, three comments about your recently adding "usage" info to various templates:

The way you did it was messing the local template (not its display on article pages, but its local rendition on the Template: page itself). The local rendition should give us a quasi WYSIWYG rendition of the what the template will look like on article pages, which is a form of documentation in itself. But your adding "usage" info right inside the template itself was modifying its appearance and messing this:
- (before) A template your modif messed
- (after) Same template with a fix: usage info separate and below actual template
I'm not sure that adding such basic "usage" info to each template is necessary, or desirable, or good for servers' workload (that's non-vital information the server still need to strip from the code before inclusion). I don't know of any major Wikipedia template that provide such info, so it seems non-standard, possibly prohibited. Maybe you should ask somewhere (Technical Pump?) about doing that or not.
I have fixed only two of the templates you changed ("Future album" and "Future single"). Maybe my fix can be improved first before you propagate it to all other templates you have been doing this to. Or maybe you'll first get information that it shouldn't be done at all, in which case you'd have to strip it from all edited templates rather than fixing them, so I thought better not to try and "fix" everything like this right now.

This made the template's rendition normal again. While keeping your "usage info". It's even improving it, since someone clueless enough to ignore how to use a one-liner template and needing such documentation may not necessarily know what a "sortkey" was or how to use it, i.e. that he has to type "Beatles, The" in it. The documentation was thus kept, and improved, yet didn't mess the template any more.

Yet, after being clearly informed of that, you reverted it again to this:

	This article or section contains information about scheduled or expected future album(s). It is likely to contain information of a speculative nature and the content may change dramatically as the album release approaches and more information becomes available.
Usage: {{future album\|sortkey}}

Thus you have messed its local image again.

The "local image" is the rendition of the template a user sees when he goes to the Template:Future album page, the template's local rendition, its local image (not its embedded icons), which is the only place the "usage info" is displayed on, since it's a <noinclude. As initially said above:

Extra HTML in your sig

When you sign talk pages, the "fading color" effect in your sig takes up quite a bit of space, and I find it quite distracting when editing pages you have signed. I would like to suggest you create a template, such as User:CyberSkull/Sig where the HTML is stored, and then change the four tildes to be replaced by something like {{subst:User:CyberSkull/Sig}}, to hide all that HTML. (This is, of course, only my opinion.) Thank you.

Screenshots

I deleted the templates "free-game-screenshot" that you added to three images because they essentially made false statements about the program. The template "game-screenshot" would have been perfectly accurate, but would also have been completely redundant and unnecessary in all three cases, since the images were all released to the public domain anyway (as was clearly and redundantly stated on all three).

I'll see about the possibility of replacing the JPG images with PNG, once I read the reasons and decide if they make enough difference to be worth the hassle.

It's not so much that other fields are necessary, as that it would be easier just to create a new infobox consistent with what's been done. I think I've created a reasonably satisfactory infobox for the US Supreme Court. We don't appear to have many case pages for things that didn't go to our Supreme Court. Scott Peterson, for example, is the latest stupid obsession, but it doesn't have a case page. In any case, I need help with two things about this proposal:

I'm not sure how to consistent formatting (such as the pretty blue box for "Case opinions", or the fact that only certain things go in certain sections of the table.
I don't know how to format it so that unused items will not show when unnecessary (dissenting opinions in unanimous cases, for example). Wikipedia:Don't use hiddenStructure seems to say that's a bad idea.

Any help you can offer would be great and then we can propose the template.

I noticed today that on 5 February 2006 you made an edit claiming that freedb doesn't support Unicode. Even though more than three months have passed and the edit has been reverted, I would like to comment on this. First of all, I sincerely hope this was not an intentionally incorrect malicious edit in order to misrepresent freedb which has supported UTF-8 for more than 2 years now. Nevertheless, assuming the edit was not intentionally incorrect (WP:AGF), I find it saddening that a MusicBrainz moderator was not aware of freedb's UTF-8 support since MusicBrainz imports large amounts of data from freedb. If the efforts made for the "Unicodification" of freedb are not taken into account by MusicBrainz and it is continued to assume the data is only in ISO-8859-1, garbage will be pulled from time to time, which surely will not end up helping MusicBrainz. I do. If you read my message closely, I tried to make it explicit that I would assume good faith by linking to WP:AGF no matter how confused I was because of your edit. I ran a search on google for unicode and finally found a small reference in the faq, I don't even know when that section was updated. Hey, I voted to keep this list. One comment though, which I didn't post in AfD because I don't want to confuse issues: Would you consider renaming the list to List of pirate computer and video games or List of pirate-themed computer and video games? The reason is, "piracy" is typically associated with illegal copying and trading of media, not actual pirates. As I have an obvious conflict of interest, I was wondering whether you think it would be appropriate to add Three Rings to the List of indie game developers page currently in existence. As far as the criteria listed on the talk page go, we satisfy both the 'two released games' criterion as well as the 'in the black' criterion. The one borderline bit is our brief association with Ubisoft specifically for the production of the box game (which was quite a bit of a disappointment), but we certainly aren't financially dependent upon sales of the box for any significant portion of our revenue. Oh, also, we're missing from List of video game developers. I believe, but am not sure, that we belong to IGDA. Music field in Infobox CVG

Hello, what do you think about optional "Musician(s)" field in Infobox CVG? You've deleted once this field, but in my opinion, quick information about music credits would be really appreciated by readers. You said it should be go to the designer field, but a game designer isn't the same as a game musician. Music engine isn't similar with music composer or performer. This template is used on over 6,000 pages. Every time you update the template, MediaWiki has to make an automatic null edit to every page that this template is included on in order to update the page. The recent changes you have made to this template have caused over 70,000 pages to be edited, resulting in a severe strain on Wikimedia's servers. Pac-Man Vs. changes

You changed the Media link (from Nintendo GameCube#Media to GameCube Optical Disc), but if you try the optical disc link here, you'll see redirects do not allow linking to sections.

I removed (Pac Man vs.) from the designer field because I thought it was extraneous, since the page does not cover Pac-Man World 2. OTOH, I added in the caption because it's the box cover itself that might be misleading that it was the same game. Perhaps you could explain what purpose a category serves to this template? How have you used this category in the past? I did take the first and largest of these categories to CFD, and it was deleted. I feel pretty strongly that these don't belong. I saw your edit summary and wanted to drop you a note. Based on how the rest of Category:Deletion templates and Category:Templates using ParserFunctions were sorting, when I removed the alpha sort key, I knew the would fall under "T", which is what I wanted to do. As long as the page didn't change names (and I was thinking it probably wouldn't), I skipped explicitly putting the T back on there. Infobox help

I see where you have been involved with the creation of InfoBoxes so am hoping you might help our: Wikipedia:WikiProject Thoroughbred racing. One of our participants created Template:Thoroughbred racehorse infobox but it has a few problems that none of us have the technical skills to repair.

I used the infobox from Nijinsky II to set up one for Sir Barton but the box has some visual problems such as very wide spacing, the color bar not going all the way to the end, and others. Both I and the infobox creator have no idea what happened so thought I would solicit your expertise to look at it for us. If you can fix and improve this (feel free to be creative if you want), at the same time could you add a line for "Honors" at the box bottom (after Prizemoney) where the editor could insert "Horse of the Year", "Hall of Fame" and the like? My technical skills are zero but I played with it and got the layout okay but the spacing problem came back when I used this new template for Slew O'Gold. Also, the bottom part for "Honours & Awards" has its text off line, too. I want this section to have nothing but centered text. Can the colored Caption at the very top be made maybe larger with larger text and the whole info box itelf a little wider? MusicDNS Portable Unique Identifiers

I can see that you've done a fair share of linking to "Portable Unique IDentifier" (I believe it should be lower case "portable unique identifier" WP:MOS (capital letters)). Do you think a separate article on PUID would really add anything, in addition to the existing MusicDNS? Using this search ("portable unique identifier" musicdns|musicip|predixis) most of the references I found are "Portable Unique IDentifier". The most major "portable unique identifier" I found on a single post in the official forums. It can seem to be spelled either way it looks like at this point, though I would lean towards the "Portable Unique IDentifier" spelling. As for it warranting an article, I dunno. That's why I linked it. Someone more knowlegeable in the subject than me can see the redlink and figure out if there is an article there. In the meantime though, relinks are not a bad thing. Indeed, the official capitalization seems like the one you suggested. The OFA protocol specification uses "Portable Unique IDentifier" and "Portable Unique ID", both once. Other than that, though, neither musicip.com nor musicdns.org use any expansions for PUID. I agree that redlinking is not bad - my intention was to ask your opinion on it, as I'm the original author of the MusicDNS article. Sorry. Yes, the lowercase debate. I (and others) want to get rid of these categories because they are self-references that just plain look bad on articles. Categories are designed as a method for users to browse through articles. Maintenance categories are best put on talk pages. Because of the nature of the wrong-title templates, they don't go on talk pages. But since they are not needed (you can use "What links here"), why have them at all? When someone reads the article on iPods why do we need to advertise to the general user that we have not only have a problem displaying the title of the iPod, but they can click on a link to find lots of other articles with the same problem? --Samuel Wantman 20:27, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Mainframe vs. PC Games

After you tagged the two Star Trek mainframe games as "incorrectedly cat'd as PC Games" (which was a good catch on your part) I removed the PC Games cat and your tag. You then subsequently re-tagged them. Did I miss some issue somewhere? These were mainframe games, not PC games. One theory: These were later ported to early micros by people -- are you looking to get these ports classified as DOS, Windows etc.? I'm just concerned that categorizing them as any kind of PC game confuses their principal role as mainframe games. Open to any clear solution though -- please advise! The other issue with that though is there are some arcade platform games listed in the PC Games category that shouldn't be there, and every time you do a mass tag update it changes the status for those as well even though their entry is listed as Arcade Game for "platform". Specifically: Breakout, Joust, Jung Hunt, Marble Madness, Puzzle Bobble, Puzzle Bobble 2, Puzzle Bobble 3, Rainbow Islands, and Space Invaders. While ports of those games did appear on pc's and consonoles, the main platforms (platform of introduction and therefore main platform type) are Arcade Games. In fact, every time you do that with the tags, these entries automatically get "This computer game has been incorrectly referred to or categorized as a PC game. Please check to see what the software platform actually is (e.g. Linux, Mac OS X, Windows) and update the article accordingly" put at the top. I tried to remove those games from the listing, but there's no direct way to edit that section (that I saw). --Marty Goldberg 04:30, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

That's not a very good example, as the different cases on cvgproj are all intended to return the same string. Here's a better example:

Preview the code on a couple of talk pages: You'll notice that {{User:Pagrashtak/cvgproj|class=GA}} and {{User:Pagrashtak/cvgproj|class=ga}} return the same result. So what's the problem?
