I've been your nemesis, but it isn't hostile, really[edit]

Dear Happychick,

I'm the one who removed your addition to Postmodernism and moved and substantially rewrote your contribution to Cinema of India. I wanted to make a personal connection with you just to let you know that this wasn't directed at you personally, it was just my ruthless pursuit of Wikipedian perfection.

The addition of Marshall MacLuhan to Postmodernism was, I think, a mistake. I actively avoid reading pomo criticism, so I'm not the greatest authority, but I do find it forced upon me (especially on one mailing list to which I subscribe, Victoria-L, mainly inhabited by English professors). Pomos just don't have MacLuhan's geewhiz attitude towards galloping technology and media morphing; they're ironic and distanced in that, as in everything. If they're enthusiastic about anything, it's feminism, queer theory, subaltern theory, and trendy quasi-Marxism. They've never so much as mentioned MacLuhan.

The material you added to Cinema of India was useful, just in the wrong place and somewhat disorganized. I moved it and rewrote it. See what you think.

I strongly disagree that Four Weddings and a Funeral was a remake of Hum Aapke Hain Koun. They are entirely different movies. But perhaps you could convince me if you spelled it out.

Please don't be discouraged. Wikipedia always needs new blood, especially bold new blood. Just brace yourself for lots of argument and rewriting <g>. Zora 02:51, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
