Adminship

Please accept your nomination for adminship at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Hyacinth. uc 03:05, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)

OK, I voted for you. You definately get points for quoting Frederick Douglass. --Herschelkrustofsky 04:14, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Congratulations!

Congratulations Hyacinth!

It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia | explains it all ® 03:05, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)

RFC pages on VfD

Should RFC pages be placed on VfD to be deleted? I'm considering removing Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Slrubenstein, Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Jwrosenzweig and Wikipedia:Requests for comment/John Kenney from WP:VFD. Each of them was listed by CheeseDreams. Your comments on whether I should do this would be appreciated. - Ta bu shi da yu 03:46, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I couldn't say myself. Hey, I'm going to shift your comments to the new admin noticeboard... if you have any specific objections to this please let me know. - Ta bu shi da yu 22:25, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Requesting help with 68.231.134.110

68.231.134.110 has repeatedly vandalized pages by creating links to hard-core porn sites. I suspect this is the same person as 65.125.117.182 who was also warned and blocked. Now that you are an big-wig, could you block this vandal? Thanks, --Samuel Wantman 17:00, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)

65.125.117.182 (who I suspect is the same person) is at it again. He was warned 3 times by User:Exploding Boy. I think it is time for this person to be banned. --Samuel Wantman 02:39, 13 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Formatting

Hyacinth, you've been around a bit longer than I have. I'm wanting to nominate someone at RfA, but they have a previous nomination. What is the format I should use for this nomination? Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/2/Username or something along those lines? Thank you. SWAdair | Talk 05:02, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

  • Whoops. Never mind. Wile answered it for me. The 2 goes at the end of username. Thank you, anyway. SWAdair | Talk 05:34, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

user 155.84.57.253

Hi, I noticed that you banned 155.84.57.253 for vandalism. This IP address has made many uncontested edits, so it would be nice if you could specify which edit(s) in particular provoked the action. Thanks, --Paraphelion 17:41, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the lookup, I was not aware of that page. I don't know how anyone has the will to police those areas for vandalism. The same user has made what I think are some fairly idiotic edits to List of ethnic stereotypes. --Paraphelion 22:47, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)

How to report/deal with link farming?

The anonymous user 4.62.127.90 just made a whole long string of edits to various articles to link to different pages all on one site. It's apparent to me that this is nothing more than an attempt to link farm to gett traffic to his own sites. In the past I have removed links on other articles to pages that contained the same copyright notice. I am concerned that we are being gamed here, but don;t know the appropriate place to report this/bring it up for discussion. I thought I'd ask you to see if you had suggestions. Thanks for your response on my talk page. DreamGuy 04:39, Mar 2, 2005 (UTC)

On page deletions

Hello Hyacinth: Obviously I am not sure how to go about dealing pages whose titles are incorrectly spelled! I was the one who tried to deal with qawaali/qawwali today. Could you pass me a link to a Help page which explains the procedure so I can get it right next time? I often see pages with inappropriate titles Thanks, Mona-Lynn 03:15, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hello again: I am requesting help. A few days ago, I discovered that the title of Ruminahui was misspelled. Silly me, I created a new page with the proper spelling, Rumiñahui, then did a cut-and-paste of the content from the incorrect to the correct, not taking into account that the page history on the old one needed preserving. Would you be able to untangle this? Thanks, Mona-Lynn 09:32, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)
No problem. I just went into the last good version, edited it and saved. It's fine now. Mona-Lynn 10:10, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Dunno! I too saw that the article was redirecting to itself. Saving the last good version solved the problem. It WAS wierd. I'm going to bed (I'm in NZ, you see). Thanks for the hand. I hope you don't mind my "picking" on you when a problem arises. Mona-Lynn 11:04, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Another problem to solve

Hi again! I just came across Samba. When I sent to leave a note on the Talk page, it took me to a Talk page for Samba (music) rather than for Samba. Also the text does not look like talk text but like an actual article. If you go to Samba (music) it's a redirect to Samba. Can you figure out what gives? Thanks again! Mona-Lynn 04:13, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Do you mean what do I think about the content of the samba articles? I haven't read either of them carefully, only skimmed them, but my first impression is that they are both incomplete. There are many kinds of samba, many of which are not described in the main article. Probably Samba (dance) should be integrated into the main article at some point. Maybe I'll look at it sometime. Hello again! Here's the latest. I tried to create a page called gharānā and it came out with the title as follows (see this link): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghar%C4%81n%C4%81 Help! Mona-Lynn 12:57, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)
