Copyright?[edit]
Alright. I was always taught that a brief quote with a citation of the source is not a violation of copyright. Such quotes appear elsewhere in Wikipedia and those pages are not copyvioed. Nevertheless, I have rewritten the page without using any quotations. The new copy is on the Temp page and can be used in place of the previous entry. --Smithfarm 10:28, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- The problem is that it is the whole article. Sure, you can quote things, but (US) fair use requires that it be part of your own larger work.
- For a more excessive example I hope illustrates this better, see this old revision of Mushfique Khwaja. The author said "this guy wrote an article in this newspaper", then proceeded to use a "quote" of the entire fourteen-hundred word newspaper article as 95% of the Wikipedia entry. No problem. I was doing a flurry of stuff all at once and needed a quick stub. Your copyvio forced me to concentrate and gather more information, allowing me to gain better understanding. Content?[edit]
I have added a reference to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali; the term viniyoga appears in III.6 in a presentation of the types and rewards of meditation. It can be translated as "application" or, as indicated in the article, "adaptation". I am not sure however where this reference should be placed in the article in terms of historical progression. The contents of the first three paragraphs are intriguing but mostly new to me and I don't know where to find out more. In particular, they begin with "initially" and I am respectfully wondering what this means -- Is there a reference in the vedas or the upanishads that predates the sutras?
