The following personal recollection was added to the article by an anonymous contributor. It's not remotely suitable for inclusion in an encyclopaedia, but it is of interest, so I've moved it to the talk page rather than delete it all together. — Trilobite (Talk) 03:28, 3 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I lived in Haverton Hill in the 1950's. My father had come over from Ireland to work in the ICI on Belisis Lane, and met my mother whilst in lodgings in Saint Vincent Street. They married and moved to Bilsdale Grove where i was born. I went to St Gerards school and remember being taught by a Mr and Mrs English. My first teacher however was a misss MacManee i think thats how you spell it. A wonderful teacher and ill never forget how nice she was. I also remember the cinema close to the shops across from Dr O'Mally's surgery. Another nice man and well respected. He delivered me, and my brothers and sisters. My husband came from Port Clarence a town just past Haverton Hill and his father worked in the Shipyard. My husband however from the age of eleven worked for a butcher named Frank Richardsons, up until he died then his son Gorden took the shop over.It moved to Station Road in Billingham but is now closed. Some of the families i remember from Haverton were, the Gambols,The Finches,The Cowlies and the Scullions and I was a Deery and everytime i pass Belisis Park and Bilsdale Grove with my family I tell them that that is where i was born. And although not so well off we were happy there.
