History - years[edit]

This article could use some specific years to reference the party's history in the 1990s. Anyone? -- User:Alcarillo 15:00 14 Apr 2004 UTC

Neoconservative[edit]

Croatian party of Rights is NOT neoconservative. Party officials support Iran nuclear program... --User:Mobydick, 19:29, 19 Mar 2005

According to their website, it is. [1]
Neoconservativism does not have the same meaning in Croatia as it does in the United States. --Joy [shallot] 21:54, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Fascism[edit]

Based on the current content of the article, I think a strong case exists that the HSP during the Yugoslav wars era fulfills criteria 1, 3, and 7 (dependent on the extent to which they were in control of the HOS). I don't speak any Croatian and I don't see much in the article to comment on 2, 4, 5, or 6. Thoughts? Stlemur 21:42, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I dont agree that it fulilled criteria 3#, because it never was in power, never was in Goverment, so it could not advocate censorship, but there was advocating violence and hate speech. I dont se loyality to a single leader, because they have been changing their party leaders, and also they never advocated a loyality to a person or a party member in public appereance, but loyality to the nation and "the law ideology" (pravaštvo). They are very anti-syndicalist, not advocating totalitarian system (anti-communist, for example). I could compare them with Italy's National Alliance (Italy), so in some way it is post-ustashi party that have used ustashi nostalgia to mobilise far right positions in Croatia and its diaspora. Also, that is quite intresting, HSP is NOT party of national conservatism, because it supports Croatian joyning the EU.--Marko Jurcic 18:16, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
But they are national conservative according to their own website. --PaxEquilibrium 22:23, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Are they? Where? They are according to ther own website neo-conservative [2]. Of course I'm not sceptic that they will turn more right wing (like in the 90s), when Croatia enters the EU. As far as it goes, they want to become a member of European People's Party. --Marko Jurcic 20:19, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It has to qualify under any of the points to be valid. --PaxEquilibrium 22:26, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HSP fullfills solely #1 - exalting Croatia and Croatian national interests, supports the cause of political Croats (persons that are deeply for the Croat cause in their soul, that means that person doesn't have to be ethnical Croat to be political Croat). Advocating violence?? One thing is being resolute and insisting on resolute and firm attitude when defending national interests and drawing the line, and other thing is to advocate violence. "right" or "rights" - the translation of the name[edit]

The name translation is wrong: it is not plural: prava (rights), it is genitivus of pravo, prava; it means "right" in English, not "rights". The name comes of historical right to independence of Croatia (hrvatsko državno pravo), as it was used in 19th century, when party was founded. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.136.92.239 (talk) 09:32, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

See how is on Britannica: http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/445306/Party-of-Right --Josinj (talk) 08:23, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a Google search on Britannica.com, which clearly shows that "Party of Rights" is the preferred form in Encyclopedia Britannica. Why they have chosen to use the plural I do not know, maybe to avoid the ambiguity that "right" has in the singular (right vs wrong, right vs left, civil right), but which disappears once the plural is used. --NorwegianBlue talk 15:35, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
edit: Hmm. There appears to be two entries in EB, one named "Croatian Party of Rights", and one named "Party of Right", see Josinj's link above, and this one: http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/755812/Croatian-Party-of-Rights. Both appear to be the EB equivalents of redirects, "Party of Right" points to History of Croatian nationalism (in Croatia: Croatian national revival), and "Croatian Party of Rights" points to Neofascism (in fascism (politics): Croatia). Here is a Google search of EB which finds both variants. When not counting the "redirect pages", there are four pages using "rights" and one using "right". --NorwegianBlue talk 16:19, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The ambiguity will be resolved when www.hsp.hr gets an English version, but the plural is clearly more common by now. (For HSP 1861 we had the same problem raised by the same user (Josinj), but there the official site translation is unambiguous.) --Joy [shallot] (talk) 18:45, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
no youre wrong prava means "rights", pravo means "right" or "proper" and desno is "right" as in "right hand side" or "right wing"
"prava" is plural in masculine form and singular in feminine form. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.182.105.242 (talk) 23:25, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Political position[edit]

The party is not for EU now. It supports referendum based on the fact that 50% of ALL Croatian people OVER 18 should vote for entrance in the EU. They are increasingly national concervative party. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.137.56.80 (talk) 22:27, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
