Hack writer[edit]

Redirecting hack writer to hack makes no sense to me. The page titled hack is a hideous mess that obviously needs to become a disambiguation page; it treats various nearly unrelated meanings of the word hack, as if it were supposed to be a dictionary entry. I think we ought to move hack (disambiguation) to hack, and have hack link to (among other things) hack writer. Michael Hardy 00:58, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Yeah, sorry about that. I probably shouldn't have just reverted your edit. I was in a bad/bossy/whiny mood that day...anyway, you can change it back if you didn't already and I can make any edits that I feel are necessary. bob rulz 20:33, Apr 27, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for tagging the votes on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Anal masturbation, I considered doing it myself when I fixed up the VfD, but the tedium of going through the history kind of scared me off :). For what it's worth, you make an excellent policeman! --W(t) 00:41, 2005 May 28 (UTC)

Looking back through the edit history you amended the line "Abandoning the Maru, preventing war but leaving the crew and passengers to die." to "Abandoning the Maru, preventing war but leaving the crew and passengers to die. Some cadets choose this option, but doing so almost certainly results in a lower grade." Do you have a source for the information that choosing to not enter the neutral zone results in a lower grade? I can't recall ever seeing/reading that anywhere? Thankyou Djbrianuk 19:52, 18 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Got your reply, thanks. I'm still dubious - I think NOT going in is the harder decision to make. It would take a certain maturity of judgement to decide that risking triggering a major war with the Klingons outweighed the lives on the freighter. In the (non-canon) novel "The Kobiyashi Maru" Sulu almost had a mutiny on his hands when he refused to breach the neutral zone to rescue the ship. I think the grade would be based on your overall command performance. However I'll leave the sentence in while I do some research. I'll also move this discussion to the article talkspace. Thanks for replying Djbrianuk 09:42, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation of names[edit]

Hi. I have reverted some of your pronunciation rules for Song of Ice and Fire. The main reason is that GRRM has explicitly not given any rules for how his characters are pronounced, and Wikipedia cannot introduce a norm and attribute it to the author. (Anyway, to make the information verifiable, you need to include a source, see WP:V, remember that somewhat paradoxically, verifiability, not truth is the most important aspect of Wikipedia information). That being said, I have big sympathies for the idea to have such guidelines, and tried to do something like that. I think I have found a good form (that is descriptive, not normative) on A Song of Ice and Fire and encourage you to add pronunciations to that list. Best, Arbor 08:32, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Flamarande[edit]

Hi, I made a few userboxes about ASoIaF, you can see them at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Books and use them at your leisure. I am not finished yet, but eventually I am going to make boxes for all the Houses and perhaps some more ( Nightswatch, etc ). If you understand enough about userboxer you can even improve them. If not, then just "pass the word" about it (please). Flamarande 14:10, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summary[edit]

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. —Viriditas | Talk 07:39, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wing Commander Reorganization[edit]

Hey, I saw your proposal on the Wing Commander page - you really summed up what myself and a lot of other people have been feeling for quite some time. I'd be interested in helping restructure the page to a less horribly confusing and hopefully rather more accurate standard - contact me on talk or at bobmcdob at gmail.com if you're interested. Bob McDob 01:18, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Alright. How should we do this? You're a lot more skilled at Wikipedia than I am, and I know some very knowledgable people in the field of Wing Commander that can help. Bob McDob 05:00, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pardon for butting in, but could we create a Wing Commander active collaboration... This would allow us to add more detail on the Wing Commander universe, whilst re-organizing the structure. Just a thought--Peidu 20:56, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just thought I'd let you know that you appear to have inadvertently created a new article with your comment. Perhaps you meant to go here? -- Gurch 09:24, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The trouble of the Hellcat V and Longbow[edit]

Hi Marblespire! I saw you have redirected most of the Wing Commander ship articles into their respective games. That's OK with me (the TCS Victory is the first article I wrote...). The slightly troublesome ones are the Hellcat V and Longbow. Those fighters are also flown by the player in Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom. The Arrow, Thunderbolt and Excalibur are in that game too, but only as enemies. Sjakkalle (Check!) 10:13, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wing Commander character bios redirects[edit]

Hi Marblespire, I have noticed you've been redirecting several WC articles to the corresponding game article. IMHO these redirects point to articles which contain very few info on the characters when compared to the bios articles. Should we expand the characters section in the WC3, WC4, etc... articles to include extended info? I fear this solution would result in an excessive expansion of the game articles and I'd like better to leave the bios as they were. Any suggestion? Thanks. Berserker79 11:14, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. I've posted my comments on talk:Wing Commander (computer game) as well. I'll be glad to help out in completing some of the missing articles, I'm going to check out the list and get to work. ;) Berserker79 10:43, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
False Colors
Hello again! I've written a part of a False Colors article at User:Berserker79/b79sandbox. It's still quite incomplete, but if you've got a few spare moments, I'd like to hear your opinion. In particular I'm concerned with the plot lenght: so far I've been going for quite a detailed recount of the story, but I fear it would be too long. I'd really appreciate some advice on the matter if you've got the time. Thank you. Berserker79 10:47, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
re: False Colors
The False Colors article is now up on its page. To keep it in line with other WC books related articles a "Weapon Systems" section should be added however. I've also tried to keep the story lenght to a reasonable amount in case we don't want the article size to be eccessive. I've hunted down some typos/spelling errors: hope I've got 'em all! :)
BTW, I'm also a Crusader fan, it's still one of my all-time favs and I work on Crusader related articles from time to time. Berserker79 14:10, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thrawn Campaign[edit]

While I do agree with both the merge and the cleanup, please do not assume that it was written by a twelve-year-old. I know fifty-year-olds who can't write.

Also, some of your cleanup edits were somewhat unencyclopedic. Wikipedia should be succinct, and this often results in somewhat dry prose. Nevertheless, dry does not always necessarily mean bad. Just thought I'd give you a heads up before stiring up a hornet's hive.

I set up merge tags, because I do agree that it's basically a summary of the entire trilogy. — Deckiller 23:00, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article As If!, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to List of Firefly (TV series) characters, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies.
