Duncanssmith[edit]

Hello, and thanks for the welcome. I discovered Wikipedia a couple of months ago, and I think it is a brilliant idea. I have a pretty wide range of interests, and particular knowledge of Fine Art. I live in London, and I am looking forward to making contributions to Wikipedia. Greetings, and best wishes to all.

Wikilka[edit]

Hi, I found about Wikipedia about 2 months ago when I was searching for "Intelligent design" and I thought that it was a wonderful idea. In a way, that is ultimately what the Internet is about. People exchanging knowledge. I am interested in Culture and Religions. Wikilka

Paul Hope[edit]

I don't know how long ago I discovered Wikipedia, but it's basically my bible. It would be nice to be able to contribute, since I'm ideologically aligned with the free intellectual property bit. I'm interested in many subjects (philosophy, economic, computer science...) but I feel as though I lack expertise. Now that I'm registered, I'll keep an eye out for places that could use two extra cents.Paul Hope 23:44, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)

WPB[edit]

I am a new user with interests in most areas of history. I also collect pottery and am interested in several pottery types including North Dakota, Southwestern Indian, and Ancient Greek. I found Wikipedia while searching various historical items and mostly liked what I saw. Then I discovered you can acutually edit and enter articles from reading an article in Wired Magazine. This should be fun. WPB 18:24, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Squeaky[edit]

I am new too. Wikipedias great, but lacking in some areas (mostly those close to my home), so I figured I could contribute something. squeaky 21:17, 2 Apr 2005 (BST)

Mark Jones[edit]

I am a law student at the University of Georgia. I wrote an article on the Erie Doctrine. I have a B.S. in political science from Texas Christian University, specializing in statistical modeling and international comparative analysis as well as political theory and philosophy. I did outstanding in civil procedure last semester and my grades were generally pretty well in all the basic legal courses. I just love writing about civil procedure. Honestly, Wikipedia is lacking in information on a lot of general legal doctrines, and I want to help out if I can, as the encyclopedia has helped me immensely over the years.

Thanks

DickMack[edit]

I first found Wikipedia about a year ago, and use it as my first reference point on any topic I want to check out. I think the concept of a democratic encyclopedia is brilliant and is what the internet was made for (so long as we can keep the vandals out!). I have ancestors who arrived in Australia on the First Fleet (1788) and was disappointed at how limited the information on related topics was. So, following the old saying of "if you don't like it, do something about it", I've started to contribute by rewriting and expanding this area. I hope I don't offend those who went before me! Feel free to say g'day! Dick 02:51, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Lendorien[edit]

I found Wikipedia a few months back. I was a little surprised an impressed with the concept. I've got a strong background in a few things, but mainly I've been focusing on the more obscure areas of American Lutheranism and history related to it. I love the idea of Wikipedia and hope to help out in adding to it in a constructive way. I've done some work already, expanding a few things begun by people before me. The way this collaborative effort works is fascinating. Drop me a hello if you like --Lendorien 09:12, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Cglied[edit]

Wikipedia is the greatest thing ever! I am making it my personal crusade to convert as many people as I know into users. My interests are in Politics, History (European & U.S.), Baseball, Movies, and just the random weird stuff that you would literally never find anywhere else.Cglied 01:52, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)Cglied

Unyo[edit]

Hehe, I actually found Wikipedia about 6 months ago, but never really did find out about all this cool stuff. (I want to be a Wikipedian!) ^^;;; I think that this is one of the greatest ideas on the web, and is one of THE BEST sites ever. Right next to google! Its prone to alot of hot-heads out on the net, but is really...how should i say...polite... Really cool! Its a encyclopedia not run by just a few people sitting behind a desk with their head in books, but its run by the world! ^,^ Unyo 07:13, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Matthew Moran[edit]

Hello all. I was pointed to this site from a writer's website.

I had looked briefly at Wikipedia a year ago but had been busy with other writing projects. I am a published author in the area's of Computer Technology, Career Development, and Professional Development.

Recently, my book, The IT Career Builder's Toolkit, was released by Cisco Press. I am working on a new title for them on building a technology consulting practice.

I blog regularly here-careers and here-personal. I also write articles for a few publications. Hopefully I can find a place in Wiki where I can contribute effectively.

Thanks, Cbtoolkit 14:11, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Solonix[edit]

Hi, long time user first time author. Decided it was time to pitch in. I'd love to help with the history, science and legal pages mostly. My residence is in Austin, Texas, but right now I'm in Cotonou, Benin. Might update those pages too. Cheers. Solonix

Dan Knauss[edit]

I've been using wikipedia for a long time but only recently started contributing, so I thought I ought to register. My main area of knowledge/study is medieval and renaissance literature and history, primarily english, particularly 16th century, and most specifically reformation literature in and around the reign of edward VI.

BeanoChris[edit]

Hello everyone! I'm BeanoChris, and I discovered Wikipedia when I was looking for information about singer Martika, and the rest is history. I come from Belfast, N.Ireland and the first article I helped edit was that of Oxide & Neutrino. Beanochris 22:18, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

iabasis[edit]

I am iabasis. This my real name. I would not post using a sock puppet or a sock puppet. These pages have become a sort of repository for facts concerning my tribe, my family, my people. My name means "little buck" in the language my son is teaching the youth of our tribe :) (claps hands and yells "yeah!!).

The "sis" suffix indicates the diminutive form of the noun it modifies. "iaba" might someday replace "stag" in our modern lexicon, just don't let my wife know. Please understand that my name does not begin with a CAPITAL Letter. That would be cocky.

My expertise is in a field in which I can not contribute.

As much as I truly enjoy good irony (see above sentence), the reason for my inability to contribute to the field I feel most comfortable sharing in a good, wiki way, rests solely on the fact that some people have chosen to exploit my tribe for their own gain.

There is no irony there.

Only greed.

I'm sure that you understand,

I simply REALLY REALLY REALLY enjoy this repository of human knowledge, and furthermore, "insight".

IOW, I have seen too many tribal elders pass away without ever having passed on their wisdom concerning medicinal plants, spiritual customs, or even how in the heck to appease "Pamola" our angry weather god.

Wiki is good. I will share somehow.

I'm a senior computer engineering major at Texas A&M University. I started using the wikipedia about a week ago after I set up a wiki for my brother's political party. JeffAMcGee 05:53, Apr 9, 2005 (UTC)

bitplay2[edit]

Wikipedia is a great idea. I've been aware of it for a while, but my interest increased when I started using OpenWiki where I work in New Hampshire. I'm a programmer in the publishing business working with scientific, technical and medical journals. I am interested in computing technology, history, religion, and popular music.

McPhail[edit]

Thanks for the welcome. I found wikipedia while researching for an essay. My areas of particular interest are professional wrestling, British politics and 17th century British history.

Ddawson[edit]

Hi. I'm Daniel Dawson. I only just now found out about this article. In the meantime, I've sort of been getting the hang of editing. I've already written about myself on my user page, so I won't repeat it here. I will say, though, that I really like Wikipedia.

Hmm. My areas of knowledge? Well, some computer science (obviously) and a little math (a math minor is part of the B.S. degree here at Eastern, definitely the right thing). So I suppose I'll end up contributing in those areas. Also copyediting here and there.

Lastly, I don't really remember where I heard of Wikipedia. I remember being dimly aware of its existence, by name only, for some time. It's only recently, however, that I more or less stumbled across it. I had not long before found The Free Dictionary and its "free encyclopedia", and had started using it. Then quite recently, I noticed the note at the bottom of encyclopedia articles linking here. For which I'm glad, since their math rendering is quite bad: things like "\left" and "\right" instead of proper TeX formatting. (Apparently, they just copy articles from here without making sure their software is set up properly.)

Oops, I went off on a slight tangent. Anyway, I do think I'll stay a while. :) Ddawson 15:54, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

DWRowan[edit]

I discovered the Wikipedia after seeing an article in "Wired" magazine. The idea of an open-source encyclopedia is intriguing. The range of information has already proved helpful as a resource for my kids. I am a video editor for TV news. I am an amature photographer. I have been an amature genealogist. I, myself, am a vast repository of useless knowledge and informational fragments. I have no doubt I will screw up royally anything I try to contribute. The fact that the Wikipedia is self healing in this regard appeals to me.

Sherubtse[edit]

Have just signed up several minutes ago, after reading an article in a recent edition of _Wired_ about Wikipedia. It seeems like a great project, with lots to do.

I am a 45 year old Canadian, working in the mental health field, and would appreciate feedback from experienced users (as well as links to pages/articles within the site that explain policies and procedures).

Thanks.

Ouatic-7[edit]

I use a Wiki at work and I have gotten used to going in and cleaning up spelling and grammar. Today, on Wikipedia, I was looking at a page where some information was just a mess so I had to tidy it. Wish I was as compulsive about my house.

Skarloey[edit]

This is an awesome Encyclopaedia, and I've joined to help add information about Cumbria, my home county, to help put it on the map, as it seems. I'm working on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, Cleator & Workington junction railway and Fletcher, Jennings & Co. pages at the minute, getting them crammed with useful information!

GremlinsBlurbs[edit]

Gremlin is just a nick that I've used for 60 years in most of my endeavers, but does not reflect my nature. I've written about toys, antique watches, and experiences in the military, jobs, travel and business. Some of these articles have been published in national hobby periodicals. I am here to place some of those things in a more permanent place for hobby enthusiasts and seekers of somewhat-scarce technical and educational information.
A bit of background:

  • Wisconsin native and a bit of U.W.
  • Electronics including TV business and Army Comm.
  • US Army in Germany 1953-1955, Arty.Bn. Radio Chief
  • Computer industry for 25 years, 15 of that in Tech. writing and Education
  • Master Watchmaker
  • collector of watches, toys, cameras, dolls and most everything from mid-century.
  • Fan of world fairs, railroads, GM locomotives

Thanks very much for stopping by.

Dave, the GremlinBlurb.

I would like to find out about posting to WikiQuotes my own translations of copyrighted material from another language to English.

English translations, often not well done, of some of these works have already been published and are copyrighted. Does that make any difference?

AlabamaSlammer[edit]

Hello, im from Alabama. i found out about wikipedia from mozilla firefox when i was looking for other search plug-ins. i used it for awhile reading entries for research without realizing that i could edit the pages myself. at first i didnt understand, but after reading the guides and tutorials, i have become a true wikipedian. its the encyclopedia written by the world.

my areas of interest and expertise would be computer science, mechanics, science fiction, and music. i have a basic understanding of some higher-level math and physics.

i have already written a seed article: Edenism.

Hello, I first heard about Wikipedia about 3 years ago, then forgot about it for about 2 years and I have been basically coming here every day for the last few months with the aim of shoving information into my brain...and I for some reason, unknown to me, I decided to finally sign up today.

Trivial[edit]

I discovered Wikipedia some time ago and have relied upon it ever since. I find the concept fascinating: not only does this place exemplify the democritization of information that the internet has brought, but I can't help but think of the Encyclopedia Galactica project in Asimov's Foundation series. Anyway, I'm an avid gamer and history buff, so I look forward to contributing to those areas. Trivial 03:49, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Jtatum[edit]

Hi all, I've been a Wikipedia reader for a while, and I've had this account for a while, but I've just started looking at updating a few pages and figured I'd drop in here. My interests are in software testing and computer games. I do tend to wander all over the place and when I see a problem, I like to fix it so you may see my name pop up from time to time. I maintain an internal Wiki at my company. If you need any help, drop by my user page. Jtatum 18:30, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

hi i am taimur and i am new to wikipedia which is in many ways a realisation of my ideas of a learning and reference resouce. my mind has been pregnant with the idea of syntesising information and resources in certain ways to achieve practical ends and results. wiki pedia can offer tremendous support for the projects that i thougt of as a 9th grader but never had the resouces to try and implement. i am lookin farward to a very beneficial affiliation with the wikipedia and wikipedia users.

Hello[edit]

I found wikipedia by browsing the web and was fascinated by the possibilities it creates. To provide a focus on the knowledge of a topic, this is unsurpassed at this time. Not to mention the time it saves for locating sources. Thanks to the initiator and the contributors.

The spring of inspiration flows from the heart of each and every human. Inspiration fuels imagination. Imagination fuels creativity. And creativity is the two-face Janis of Humankind upon Our Earth. Yet choice to ignore one face, in favor of the other, is a spring which knows no bounds.

This form of encyclopedia, to collect and aggregate the sum of human knowledge, may chronicle our choice between perpetual creation, or the tail of its destruction. My choice, my vote, is to build upon collections of knowledge in perpetuity, by including All for the benefit of All.

I've been an anonymous contributor for a while, but I decided to get myself an account and be ever so slightly less anonymous. (Accounts let you upload images!) Nakkiel[edit]

I can't remember where I learned about WikiPedia from, but I've come for a while now and have lots of fun surfing etc. I created the dividend imputation page and then registered so the origin is not under my username. The edits, are, though. I've also created (eg franking credit) and edited a few other related tax pages to match. It will be mostly business and finance pages I'll deal with (I'm an Associate member of the Securities Institute of Australia and achieved my first Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment last year).

My username comes from two songs by Danish doom metal band Saturnus. Nakkiel is apparently the name of a fallen angel, though I haven't found any reference to it outside of Saturnus information and it isn't in WikiPedia's List of fallen angels nor in the external link provided.

I first discovered Wikipedia a year or so ago, but I only just joined a few days ago (I should have done it sooner, dangit!). I'm a 16-year-old Junior from near Conroe, Texas. Mainly I'm interested in languages (particularly Mandarin, Ojibwe, and Hebrew) and linguistics (especially historical linguistics). Entiendo español, pero no sé si puedo ayudar con esa versión de Wikipedia, porque no puedo escribirlo bien... Well, I've been swearing by wikipedia and its greatness for a long time now. Now seems like a good time to start pitching in too. My main interests that could be of benefit to wikipedia are maths, philosophy, interest in layout/design/consistency, proficiency in English and a big interest in explaining things with a minimal of fuss (ie, using plain english, targetting as wide an audience as sensible, trying to hit the nail on the head without waffling for too much or being too terse, etc. etc.) The friendly, collaborative atmosphere that comes across to me as a reader is amazing. I guess my main interests/areas of knowledge are Arthurian legends, Film and Figure Skating :) These are the things that I feel I have a good level of knowledge about and that I really like :)

I'm bilingual. I speak both English and Polish pretty much as my native languages (English is probably the weaker one). I tend to use the English wikipedia more, probably because it's bigger. I've no idea how I found out about wikipedia ;) It just keeps appearing in various ways... google searches, links from all sorts of pages.... etc.

I've already started meddling with some Arthurian pages here...

Hi there. I don't know how long ago I discovered Wikipedia, but I've been making anonymous edits here and there with varying IP addresses. One of my chief interests is computers, especially Macs, but I look up (and sometimes add to) whatever I stumble across. I'm just an all-too-typical physics/CS geek. I probably found out about Wikipedia from Slashdot (although I was already present at the Portland Pattern Repository), and went straight for the article merging with Vulcan nerve pinch (2004). Eventually I decided I might be continually useful to the Wiki and I registered. I'm not as much of a Dr. Who fan as one would think; the name is just my longtime-standard username.

Hi all, I'm new to Wiki's and wanted to learn more. I have a background in communications and manage a computer help desk. My interests are fairly diverse so I tend to be all over the place. For some odd reason, I find copy-editing rather relaxing and try and get through a couple of articles a night. I'm up for bigger projects if anyone needs help but am more than happy to just run around picking up crumbs here and there. Just an average Canadian. I've got a lot of wierd areas of interest, I'll try to do my best with what I can. No formal researching education, but I consider myself an amateur creative writer, so it shouldn't become too tough to work on something.

Just found Wikipedia through Google of course, or maybe it was a random forum link, I'm not sure. Topics that interest me are videogames and internetia. Things that currently interest me are humans (civilization, evolution and culture) and Canada's Great Lakes region which is where I grew up.

New to Wikipedia[edit]

I just found the website while looking for information. I decided to join right away since it seems like a place to connect with people who might know about things I'm interested in. It seems very easy to use and open for creativity, but I really can't imagine how I'll fit in. My main interests are education and therapy (which I define mainly as "self-care"), art (my favorite form of therapy) and how the internet is really changing the world. I'm also interested in gardening in the desert (most of the books are not written in my area). I need to get back to the tutorial now.Trmcnamara 20:08, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)Trmcnamara
