Etymology[edit]

Some folks (plainly those Danes and Norwegians) mistake the name of Stenhousemuir to indicate its having been founded by Vikings. Infact, "muir" is a scots word for moor (I just checked my excessively detailed scots dictionary, and it has only that meaning) where the scots word for wall is "dyke" (yes, like dutch). I guess the Norsk/Dansk word comes from latin's murus (wall), so the similarity to muir is accidental. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 12:35, 21 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Just wanted to point out to the person who keeps adding the apparent nicknames "the Norwegians, "the Norsk" and "the Vikings" that Stenhousemuir FC have never been nicknamed any of the above. "The Warriors" will do nicely. Also, creating links to "the Warriors" film isn't exactly useful. Talk 19:55, 11 Apr 2007

Although it may be considered a mistake to believe that the "muir" part of Stenhousemuir originates from a Norse language for meaning wall (examples from modern Norse languages are the Norwegian word "mur" and the Icelandic "múr"), I would like to point out that the Scots word "muir" has the same meaning as the Norwegian word "myre" and the Icelandic word "mýri". Whether or not the town's name is of Norse origin is another question entirely. Ingi Benedikt Jónasson | Talk —Preceding undated comment added 16:30, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

"1964: Summer……Rangers FC reveal a plan to remove the Warriors from the league, along with four other clubs." - what was that all about then....? ChrisTheDude 11:58, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In the Summer of 1964, Rangers had proposed that the existing 37 club Scottish Football League be dissolved and that a new league with just 32 clubs be started up again, with two divisions of 16 clubs each.
Five clubs (Stenhousemuir, Albion Rovers, Berwick Rangers, Brechin City and Stranraer) were to have been excluded from the new set up, largely on the basis of low gate figures for the previous few seasons and the perceived unattractiveness of fixtures against these clubs.
Stenhousemuir FC countered that the move was primarily to further the bigger clubs own interests and that Albion Rovers v Stenhousemuir was every bit as important a fixture on the week's football pools coupons as, say, Rangers v Aberdeen. (The Scottish Football League receiving copyright royalties from the pools promoters which was then distributed amongst member clubs).
After various legal proceedings in the Scottish courts in the following months and years, it wasn't until November 1967, however, that Rangers FC's legal representative stated at the Court of Session that they would be discontinuing their legal action.

Fair use rationale for Image:Warriors Badge.jpg[edit]

Image:Warriors Badge.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Proposed new History section[edit]

I haven't really edited this article, but I came across it in one of the cleanup categories and have been working on a new version of the History section. I have it contained in my userspace at here, and I think it fixes some of the tone issues as well as turning the list into prose. I'd like some feedback before inserting it into the article, either here or on that page's talk page. Arcendet (talk) 16:14, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, it's been almost a month, so I'm tentatively inserting it. Please feel free to edit or leave comments either here or in my userspace. Arcendet (talk) 14:44, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
