Is Cybiko obsolete? I have never seen any ad for it in years! This could indicate obsolescence (and even) being out of print. --SuperDude 05:12, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

It probably is, but you can still find some NOS at eBay for instance. There is some development going on. // Liftarn — Preceding undated comment added 14:19, 14 June 2005 (UTC)

Once again, I'm going to move the pages needing attention tag from the talk page to the main article where tags belong. 24.9.10.235 04:01, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cybiko isn't obsolete, the company was acquired by In-fusio and the technology is probably being employed elsewhere. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.7.253.190 (talk) 22:31, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

indeed, the technology is still being developed, but in nothing like the guise of the cybiko. however the cybiko does still have quite a large fan base, mostly with "hackers" (in the traditional sense of the word) --88.106.62.62 08:24, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am still hacking on the Cybiko - Ill revisit the page and add more info. Gotthardt 18:10, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

just like the psp community right? anyway this should have beat the gameboy color just like the psp should have beaten the ds. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.122.182.49 (talk) 08:50, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

Would be good to have a little more historical background... when the versions came out; perhaps an assessment of how it compared to other devices when introduced. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JPH-FM (talkcontribs) 22:10, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Peer to Peer[edit]

This article doesn't emphasise the unique (at the time) peer-to-peer radio network that allowed each cybiko to act as a node in a network and forward information on to other cybikos and gateways (cybikos connected to a PC connected to the internet). I think that this preceeded WiFi, the same concept is now being used by TerraNet (See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6987784.stm ). I feel that this was a very important feature of the cybiko and it is not mentioned. JayAbbott 10:03, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Built-in features?[edit]

The article is greatly lacking in the devices built-in capabilities. I am interested in what software features it had and how they were accessed--for example, email. There is clearly an email icon in the picture of the Cybiko Xtreme, but how was it used? Could you send email too? Most importantly, how did it connect to the Internet? What other built-in features did it have? —Preceding unsigned comment added by N00n3imp0rtant (talkcontribs) 03:15, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The cybikos connected to the internet through the connection to your PC. You could send email if it was connected to your pc, but why wouldn't you type it on your pc??? 99.109.238.70 (talk) 19:59, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Planetcybiko.net[edit]

fourms.planetcybiko.net is the only cybiko website left. It has a backup of some of the "offical" games and apps. It also acts as a hangout for cybiko homebrew developers. I feel there should be a refrence to it in the article. Anyone else have a thought? 99.109.238.70 (talk) 20:02, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Return of Cybiko Company?[edit]

I was watching Ashens review a Cybiko in a video the other day when I saw,"Visit our website at http://www.cybiko.com/". Being a curious soul I am, I decided to check if it was still up despite Ashens saying that the website was down. Low and behold http://www.cybiko.com/ is back up and now specializes in Mobile games. My question is, does this warrant the Cybiko page updating to a company page that talks about their business in the mobile market and with the old Cybiko handheld? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:318F:4750:1486:CD0B:6F4:B26 (talk) 14:47, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Whilst posting the new section below I had a look and the site is at present (2021-06-04 08:00 UTC) just a single page with a static PNG and no further content, nor any SSL capability. I highly doubt this meets any criteria for considering Cybiko an "active" or "revived" business, and the likelihood is a holding company has bought-up the Cybiko brand to expand their portfolio of companies. Interestingly though the PNG bears the message "Repairing flash" (Presumably referencing Adobe's cessation/removal of Flash in Jan 2021) which suggests the site/domain has been updated at least once in the past six months. 86.0.245.142 (talk) 08:25, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The Cybiko Xtreme shows this "Repairing flash" screen when it has to repair its storage (which is Flash memory). It isn't anything to do with Adobe's Flash. Xyem (talk) 11:02, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Info in summary: Mix-up between Metric & Imperial?[edit]

Just came here to find more technical information on the subject (I owned a few soon after they fell out of relevance) and noticed the radio range in the summary is given as "300 metres", which is incorrect for both the Cybiko Classic and eXtreme which to my knowledge used the same 900MHz chipset. These had a radio range of up to one-hundred metres (Which is 300 feet) but this was very difficult to achieve in practice; My UK-spec units would just manage communication over ~10m in 2004, and the LGR vid at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38VEBOseAzM shows the US-spec equivalent barely exceeded social distancing limits when tested out post-Covid.

I'm going to make an appropriate edit to correct for this (Sorry for no account; I've a Wikipedia account but lost access to it years back) but thought I'd put the justification here first so it's understood and not just written-off as vandalism. :-) 86.0.245.142 (talk) 08:26, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Heads-up: increased traffic to this page due to XKCD[edit]

I came here because of the mention of this device on XKCD.

https://xkcd.com/2699/

Apparently so did a lot of other people; 100x as many page views on the 16th as on the 15th. 144.212.3.4 (talk) 16:01, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
