Luprand is, for the most part, a nonsense name created in April of 2002 by a young and untalented comic scribbler from Ohio; he later used this name as his own screen name for a number of forums and communities.

For all intents and purposes, Simon Shepherd (the hack mentioned above) holds a virtual monopoly of the name (or so say the latest Google searches). However, it has been discovered to be a legitimate surname in Germany and France, whatever good that may do.
