Joke[edit]

"The story revolves around Antoine Doinel, an ordinary adolescent in Paris, who is thought by his parents and teachers to be a trouble maker, and who along with his three closest friends embarks on an ambitious plan to receive four hundred blow jobs over the summer before they all go to college and go their separate ways." Is this a joke ? The 400 blows is not about blow jobs, nor college, it's not the heavy type of teen comedy movie that the writer of this entry seems to have watched a little bit too much...

Paragraph moved[edit]

This paragraph

Legend has it the young Weinstein brothers attended the film believing it to be racy European fare. They were so moved by the experience it led to a deep and enduring love of film and eventually to their founding Miramax Films.

should be in another place than the main section, where it looks out of place. Perhaps a new section named "Influence". Any objections? Nazroon 22:48, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:400blowsfence.jpg[edit]

Image:400blowsfence.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Adaptations of the title[edit]

I believe it is necessary to mention about the uses of the title in other media. There's probably a number of it. Here is my example.

The title was used in one story mentioned in Sesame Street. There, the name The 400 Blows literally refers to the way Grover has to blow 400 times to put out the candles on his birthday cake. Ironically, the story ends where Grover passes out after blowing just 40 times. A continuation was promised but didn't happen. 122.3.106.251 (talk) 08:45, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

article traffic, views[edit]

this movie was just mentioned in yahoo's list of top 100 movies. thewe will probably be a jump in article traffic here. --Steve, Sm8900 (talk) 21:33, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Plot summary... To the point[edit]

As requested by a previous editor, I shortened the plot summary.Xela Zeugirdor (talk) 19:26, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lacking[edit]

Other than mentioning it in the Lead, the article lacks why this film is characteristic of what became called the 'French New Wave' and why that was important. It does not say it was Truffaut's debut film (I added that), or tell what the characteristics of the New Wave were. For such an important film, it has facts but little context except for rankings. Editors need to use some film studies and similar works to expand and develop this article.Parkwells (talk) 18:27, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Speed[edit]

The film was shot without sound. But the complete film also looks 'sped up' faster than 24 fps ?

Need for research into source content[edit]

The following non-digital source appeared at the end of the Production section, Title subsection.

<ref>Criterion Collection DVD of ''Grand Illusion'', see the section on press notes.</ref>

The three sentences preceding it appear to have been drawn from distinct sources, and as this source is ambiguous in its description, it is impossible to be sure it covers all paragraph content. (Finding and reviewing this source is essentially impossible, in the short term.) It is placed here until someone can find the source, fully complete the information so others can likewise find and consult it—a source so poorly cited that only the original user can find it again is really not a source at all—and then place the citation in the paragraph where it belongs, removing citation tags for all covered paragraph content. 67.184.62.39 (talk) 04:40, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Woefully inadequate article[edit]

One of the most influential Insignificant films of all time, and it has barely a stub of an article. This is a disgrace. I wish we were the person to rectify it however I am no film expert, Simply a francophile Dlabtot (talk) 07:52, 8 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I've just added importance "Mid" for Wikiproject France to hopefully add a bit of attention ("Topics that are reasonably notable on a national level within France without necessarily being famous or very notable internationally, including smaller towns"). This is rated as a [Vital Article|WP:VA] so hopefully it will get some attention! Sbwoodside (talk) 01:08, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Themes section[edit]

The themes section is just word for word what the burns film center says about the film's themes. Pineapple4321 (talk) 21:39, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think the link archive link for Kurosawa's quote about the film leads to a virus[edit]

I clicked on the archive link as I was curious to see more about what Kurosawa said about the film. The tab that opened had a bunch of error stuff and pop ups as well as a loud noise, so I quickly exited out of it. Is it possible to get a bot to check the safety of all the archive links on this page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pineapple4321 (talkcontribs) 19:51, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Pineapple4321: Thank you for pointing that out. I've added a parameter to the citation so it uses the archive only and doesn't link anymore to the shady original. A good tool to see if the current links are still live and not redirecting is Checklinks, and it doesn't seem to show issues with any other links. As for the Kurosawa quote, unfortunately, that's all the citation itself has as well. Running a search, I couldn't really find another source with that wording, though it's possible that it might have been translated differently elsewhere.
