re Satellaview translation[edit]

Helps? Wow, that helps all right! Awesome work. Thanks! Now I just have to fix it up... Master Thief GarrettTalk 09:32, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ta-daaaa! I reworded it to fit both the space available and the current terminology of the article.

Many thanks again! Master Thief GarrettTalk 11:47, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, since most non-Japanese speakers probably wouldn't know this, "famicon" is actually derived from the English "family computer", but it means something more like "gaming console". You might want to translate this on the image. Sorry about that! Vircum 17:53, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, that's right, the Japanese love contractions--that's where Satellaview itself comes from, satellite+view. I did consider including it, but I couldn't really fit it in nicely, and anyway the Satellaview page has about three different Super Famicom wikilinks, and that page in turn will tell you that they tried to market it as a sort of computer.
Also there's no on-image explanation of AV, AC, BS-X, BS-5 ch, M/bit, or anything else. Similarly, if I was illustrating the SNES I'd just say "SNES", I wouldn't explain on the image what it means. This image is best if it's simple, and the page itself can then elaborate on it. As it is I have yet to rewrite the page to fully make use of and explain the illustration.
But thanks for your concern! Master Thief GarrettTalk 18:02, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if you're still editing regularly at Wikipedia but I just wanted to let you know that I've altered this image. I've reexamine the original image and I find that 「デジタル音声・データ」 translates more closely to "digital voice data" instead of "Live Voice" which is an overly-liberal translation (Original Research term) as far as I can see. The danger is that readers of the article may think that "Live Voice" is an official term and this term also suggests that the voice portions of the Satellaview experience were actually broadcast live. I can't find any support for this notion in primary sources at all. I hope my corrections look good to you in terms of physical layout. Cheers. -Thibbs (talk) 21:14, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
