Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Spybot - Search & Destroy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On 1 August 2004, Spybot - Search & Destroy was proposed for deletion. This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was KEEP. Rossami 05:06, 7 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Someone put {{subst:vfd}} on the page but forgot to add it here, so I copied it over. Let me go on the record as being strongly against deleting an article on this important spyware removal tool. However, the article is a substub, and the consensus is that substubs are worse than having nothing at all. An interesting conundrum, but I'll leave it for you to sort out: I don't believe I'm eligible to vote on this one. --Ardonik 02:08, Aug 1, 2004 (UTC)

  • Keep. Perfectly notable. Guanaco 02:12, Aug 1, 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. Quite a noted program in its field. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 02:15, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. I use it. ;-) And it can't be advertising, because its free. But I do hope that somebody adds to it substantially. Elf-friend 02:18, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep...more of a cleanup job. Ilyanep (Talk) 02:30, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. I use it. Isomorphic 05:56, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC)

  • Keep. If this was a substub before, it's grown considerably. - Lucky 6.9 08:08, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. I'm not a Windows user but I've heard of it. No longer substub.--Ianb 11:19, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep but list on Clean Up. Even if the VfD voters clean it, it's always a good idea to send it over for a once-over there. If this article survives, however, we're going to need a redirect at "Spybot - Search and Destroy" and possibly a disambiguation at "Spybot" so that it can be found with its ampersand. • Keep. I use it. Blue Mask|Talk 15:28, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep - It's good stuff. Although, I don't understand the criteria for what software is kept and what is deleted. It's very inconsistent. Any response should probably go on my talk page. --Buster 21:31, Aug 1, 2004 (UTC)
  • keep but cleanup -- it's far too long, with far too much boilerplate about how the program works, etc. Looks as if a lot of this is paraphrasing some PR stuff for the program. Right now it's about 3 times as long as the WordPerfect article in terms of what the damn program does and doesn't do. (I myself use it, along with PestPatrol and SpySweeper, and it's a nice program, but this article is too much of a good thing about it. Cut the article by 65% or so.)Hayford Peirce 22:45, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC)
