Which dynasty is Emperor Gengshi?[edit]

If Emperor Ruzi of Han China is the last of western Han and Emperor Guangwu of Han is the first of eastern Han, then how about Emperor Gengshi of Han China? wshun 01:02, 30 Nov 2003 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean. Basically, I hope to have the time to majorly expand this page later. Gengshi was effectively a transitional figure; his armies overthrew Wang Mang, but he was not competent enough to pacify the entire empire, and eventually died at the hand of Chimei (赤眉), paving the way for Liu Xiu (Emperor Guangwu) to take over. --Nlu 02:47, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
He meant which dynasty did he belong to. We shouldn't just make up a new one: he was considered the restoration of the original Han Dynasty by himself and illegitimate by the Eastern Han. So, Western Han. Lists that say that Ruzi was the last of the Western Han simply aren't including the G.Imp. — LlywelynII 09:23, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wife[edit]

The prior version of the article had Emperor Gengshi's wife be one of Wang Mang's granddaughters, but I find no corroboration for this; neither Zizhi Tongjian nor Book of Han gave a wife/empress for him (but did mention two concubines). I've therefore taken the assertion that Wang Mang's granddaughter was his wife off the page, but if anyone has corroboration, please put it back. --Nlu 15:33, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

The standard formatting for the Han rulers is "Emperor X" but that's because they were using posthumous names. Since this guy's using his era name, we should employ the same convention as the Ming and Qing emperors ("the X Emperor"). — LlywelynII 09:23, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
