Wondering how to edit this U.S. City Entry?

It is, because under COPPA, the names of those under 13 must have parental consent to have their full names or addresses posted on the internet. It is somewhat of common law (and more of a moral standpoint) that you really shouldn't put someone's name on the internet without their permission, or if they're over the age of majority (between 18-21 years of age, I know under Alabama law, the age of majority is 19). It is more appropriate to put the person's first name and last initial. (i.e. John D.)

T.J. - That statement is not true. In and of itself, there is nothing illegal (or in my opinion inherently unsafe) with putting an individual's full name on the web (or in print).

For anyone who may edit this article, please note that is NOT safe nor legal to put someone's full name on a webpage without their consent.

People need to stop posting about Vienmont and Fairvew Schools in the education section! This article is about the CITY OF CULLMAN not the towns of Vienmont and Fairveiw.......please feel free to post abou those schools on the article for those towns instead of the city of Cullman! Thankyou, Admin

Edits of July 4, 2008[edit]

I did a little work on this page today, and wanted to make a couple of notes. I deleted a lot of links to nonexistent Wiki articles, especially in the "education" section. The paragraph contained so many links to nonexistent articles, the resulting red font made the section look like it was dipped in ketchup. See generally, WP:MOSLINK. I don't want to imply that the schools are not worthy of attention, but until a Wiki article is written about them, this many links distract from the reader's experience. I left a link to the nonexistent article on St. Bernard College, in the hope that some Cullman person would notice it has no article and repair this oversight. Further Fireworks Day Edits: "Cullmann" vs. "Kullmann"[edit]

This article has previously used the spelling "Kullmann" for the last name of the city's founder. See this revision. As the current text notes, sources use both versions, but:

The man's lone surviving American descendant, quoted in the daily newspaper in the subject city, says it's "Cullmann," and says there are no ancestral German records supporting "Kullmann."
A quick Google search (see WP:NCON "The Google test. Using Google's advanced search option, search for each conflicting name and confine the results to pages written in English; also exclude the word "Wikipedia" (as we want to see what other people are using, not our own usage). Note which is the most commonly used term.") finds only 6 hits for "John G. Kullmann," (2 of which are from the current version of the aritcle), and 84 for "Cullmann," only one of which seems to be from another Wiki article.
Finally, it has to be worth a lot that the residents of the city and county, a century ago, settled on "Cullman" and not "Kullman."

I changed the text to "Cullmann" on this basis, but if anyone has contrary evidence or analysis, hop in with it. So long as the guiding principles of WP:UCN are followed. Audemus Defendere (talk) 10:55, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notable persons section[edit]

1. Neither the Wiki article nor the bio on Melinda Dillon indicate any connection to Cullman. Both say she is from Hope, Arkansas. Some source needs to reflect Cullman link.

2. Neither Wiki nor a Google search turns up any info on who SSgt Joshua S. McDowell is, let alone why he is "notable."

3. The link to Waid Harbison is to a self-published page. This creates a source question, as well as a notability question. Since the page appears to be self-published fiction, there is a WP:NOTADVERTISING problem lurking here, too. September 5, 2008 - transportation and others[edit]

The material on Saint Bernanrd Prep is WP:NOTADVERTISING and has been tagged for some time.

The couple of sentences deleted from the Transportation section have a history of some unproductive edits, including some that seem NPOV to demean the subject. It just seems better to leave the section as links, unless you're going to create a full text treatment of the topic with sources.

The names "Big Jim" and "Little Jim" are common and popular usage in Alabama to distinghuish the father and son governors. See the linked aritlces.

The weasel word citation had no place in the article. The cited source clearly covers the item.

The population table bites when it's on right align - it stacks with the map. But when I move it left, it fails to hug the left margin. I am all for having it hug the margin and improve the text appearance, if someone knows how to make that template do that. Confusion on Col. Cullmann's Motivations for Emigration[edit]

I was flipping through the "History" section, and noticed that it states: "Cullmann had been an advocate of democratic reforms in his native Bavaria, and he fled when the autocratic Prussian-dominated regime emerged ascendant after the Revolutions of 1848."

While the motivations for leaving may be sound, the timelines are off. German unification and, thus, Prussian control of Bavaria did not occur until 1871. You could maybe pinpoint the rise of Prussian domination of the German states to be 1861 with the ascension of King Wilhelm I, 1862 with Bismarck's "Blut und Eisen" speech, or 1866 with the Austro-Prussian War. These would make much more sense given his date of emigration, 1865. But the clause regarding 1848 must be clarified if this is the case, as his personal history in 1848 may be related to his choice to emigrate but may not necessarily be causative.

As far as sources for the claim, the first source for this statement is no longer existent. I am tracking down the book that is the basis of the second source, but I'm still a bit skeptical.
