Super-categories[edit]

Currently, this category is a sub-category to Category:Websites, Category:World Wide Web, Category:Search engines, Category:Research. The category name "Internet search engines" would imply that everything in this category is a search engine. As far as I know, all Internet search engines are websites. If that is irrelevant to some article in this category, I would suggest that the article should not be in this category. Re-adding Category:Websites. ~ Booya ^Bazooka 21:37, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not all Internet search engines are websites. For example, [1] and (some of the things on) [2] are search engines, but not websites. Benn Newman 14:58, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see what you are saying, but what do you propose? All of these search engines that are websites need to be in some subcategory of Category:Websites. Common sense: is Internet Explorer a Search Engine not having own Website? We can't list here Teleport, Grabber Pro, and Co... 'Add to Favorites' button in IE has 'synchronize' feature in IE. Let's say, for instance, that we need (at least) to list here well known User Agents. But in this case we need to write Googlebot instead of Google, isn't it? Yahoo and their search engine Inktomi are different things. Let's have here 'Search Engines' (identified by typical 'robot' behavior and User Agent string), AND having own websites, and let's call Yahoo "Yahoo" and Google "Google", this is more understandable... And correct User-Agent string must include link to /robot.html file with description, placed somewhere on the NET.
