Bird Dance Lyrics in the UK[edit]

In England we often sing "with a little bit of this and a little bit of that and shake your bum" to the tune of this.

That's a LOT better than the common American version which goes like "if you wanna be a chicken, if you wanna be a duck, you'd better something something quack quack quack" Cheers.

María Jesús performance[edit]

Meanwhile, in 1974 in Italy...[edit]

A version of Chicken Dance originated in Italy in 1974 as a synthesizer demonstration piece called "Tchip-Tchip", by Cash And Carry (with Bobby Setter And Co), which was released in the UK on the EMI label (Cat. No. 2125) but wasn't a hit. Ads for the disc featured a cartoon drawing of a duck. The piece is credited to writers "Thomas" (hence, Werner Thomas) plus somebody called "Rendall" who also co-wrote the b-side, titled "Who Needs Money?" Contradictions in the History Section[edit]

The History section of the article contradicts itself by giving two accounts of the "first" introduction of the dance into the United States. And two "only" reasons for the name Chicken Dance.

The dance was introduced in the United States in 1981 during the Tulsa, Oklahoma, Oktoberfest by the Heilbronn Band from Germany. They wanted to demonstrate the dance in costume, but there were no duck costumes available anywhere near Tulsa. At a local television station, however, a chicken costume was available which was donated for use at the festival, giving the "Chicken Dance" its name.
The dance and song was originally brought from Germany to the US by Eddie Duling and Larry Karhoff of Glandorf Ohio in 1974.
Despite other claims as to the name "Chicken Dance", the name had come about because an Austrian tour guide translated "Bird Dance / Dance Little Bird" and other similar names, from German to English by calling it "The Chicken Dance"...

Substantial reorganization[edit]

This page was suffering from "many hands syndrome," with duplicated, redundant, and even mildly contradictory information jubled together in a disordered manner, so i have reorganized it, placed all the material in each section chronological order, and made new sub-heads. I have not added all that much to the article itself, except that i did port over some information and citations from the Bob Kames bio page, and thus was able to remove him from the See Also section. There are still citation problems remaining from the previous versions of the article -- which always happens with popular culture articles, in my experience. Calling out each lapse for a citation is unproductive, so i have retained the previously-inserted citation-needed templates as i found them. Origin of the dance[edit]

This version of the article claims that hte origins of the dance are unknown, but the Dutch version of the article contains this paragraph:

"Mede dankzij een optreden van de Elektronica's in het TROS-muziekprogramma Op volle toeren met het liedje, nu getiteld de Vogeltjesdans, werd het nummer razend populair in Duitsland en Nederland. Zeker ook door het optreden van enkele in een geel vogelpakje verklede inwoners van St. Willebrord, die het bijbehorend dansje, van de Spaanse flamencodanser Fernando Reyes (huidige partner van Andrè van Duin) uitvoerden. Een kinderlijk eenvoudig, maar aanstekelijk dansje (handen in de zij, flapperen met ellebogen en met kleine stapjes voortbewegen); volgens Ad Visser "Gangnam Style avant la lettre". Als choreograaf van ’De Vogeltjesdans’ zorgde Fernando Reyes voor een miljoenensucces."
