anyone got any thoughts on why wolsey's fall from power was so complete?

Because he failed Henry VIII in getting his marriage annuled with the Pope. He failed Henry VIII in the worst way, the most important issue to Henry. Cardinal Wosley did not agree with Henry on the decision and I believe he did not pursue the Pope as aggressive as he should have for Henry.
