Carbonite[edit]

final (25/0/1) ending 22:18 19 March 2005 (UTC)

I've just changed my user name from Carrp. I've copied over my user and talk pages. You can view my contributions as Carrp here. I joined Wikipedia in July 2004 (although I didn't really edit as Carrp until November) and have slightly more than 1700 edits. I enjoy grunt work and believe that no job is too small. 1. Edit history looks good, lots of experience with plenty of breadth and depth in the nooks and crannies. History of vandal fighting and courteous on talk pages. CryptoDerk 00:16, Mar 13, 2005 (UTC)

  9. Seems to already do valuable work on VFD. Admin powers will be extremely useful for him in that regard. My limited interaction with him convinced me that he is level headed and discusses potential conflicts before escalating or reverting. --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 19:22, Mar 14, 2005 (UTC)
  10. I was thinking about nominating Carrp earlier, but the incident with Belizian raised some doubts in my mind. Having raised the issue again here, I feel that I should support in order to make clear that the answer below satisfies my concerns. --Michael Snow 21:02, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Comments

  • I took a good look at your edit history and I'm impressed, but can you explain the events surrounding your blanking of user and talk page on December 28, 2004. Nearby edits include being involved with an RFC on Auto-movil and a VFD on the Bush family propaganda article, but your comments will be more useful than me trying to piece things together. CryptoDerk 23:07, Mar 12, 2005 (UTC)
    • That was probably the lowpoint of my time on WP, but it also gave me a great deal of perspective. At the time, I was under a lot real-world pressure, and I thought that leaving WP might be best option. In retrospect, I should have just posted a notice saying I was on WikiHoliday. I can assure you that I have not and will not act in such a hasty manner again. Carbonite 23:18, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)
      • Um... OK, but I requested an explanation, not an apology. I just want to know what it is all about (unless real world pressure was the reason). CryptoDerk 23:42, Mar 12, 2005 (UTC)
        • I blanked my user and talk pages due to high stress and the need of a break. This stress was almost entirely from real-life, but there were also minor Wiki sources. Auto-movil and the Bush family conspiracy theory article were the causes from the Wiki side of things. I haven't heard anything from Auto-movil since his RFC and the Bush article was kept (I haven't checked to see if it's been cleanup up). I now actively avoid entering into such controversy, although I will deal with it calmly when controversy is inevitable. There's far too much work to be done here to spend all that time with one user or one article. Carbonite 00:01, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)
  • A question: Looking back on it, how would you deal with the dispute that arose over the current events page back in January? (Link to some of the relevant discussion for those interested: Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive3#Carrp) --Michael Snow 07:28, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)
    • This was a case of several misunderstandings. Had I been an admin when this occurred, I would have posted a quick notice on WP:AN/I. Since there was consensus that the block was in error, I believe the situation would have been resolved quickly. However, if the same situation were to happen again, I would spend more time trying to understand what Belizian was adding to the current events page. Although it's very unusual to post first-hand news reports, a bit more communication could have prevented a number of problems. Carbonite | Talk 14:46, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. I would like to help with the backlog on VfD, patrol Recent Changes and most of all, help to revert vandalism.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. I'm more of a "numbers" guy and I know that my strength isn't in writing. I did create NFL playoffs and hope that it will eventually be as comprehensive as possible.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and will deal with it in the future?
A. I did have a few conflicts as I learned to edit by building consensus. I'm really a pretty laid back person and would prefer to present my information and step back from controversial situations. I believe that everyone (expect perhaps a handful of vandals) working on Wikipedia has valuable information to add to the project.
