Page needs to focus on encyclopedic content[edit]

The current article reads like a dictionary entry. If there is a distinct concept of an anodyne (different from an analgesic), the article should focus on that. If not, it should be merged with analgesic. Discussion of psychic relief and of placating words don't belong here. --Macrakis (talk) 16:15, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. The article can properly be about the word "anodyne" and its history and usage in a manner that goes well beyond a mere "dictionary entry". As such, it shouldn't be merged with anything. Valerius Tygart (talk) 11:45, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
