Moody's nose[edit]

Karkaroff wasn't the one that ripped out Moody's nose; it was Evan Rosier. Moody says it in the trial of Karkaroff that Harry sees in Dumbledore's pensieve.

Durmstrang's supposedly unacceptance of non-purebloods[edit]

Where in the books does it say that Durmstrang only accepts purebloods?

It says so (more or less) in GOF in the chapter where Malfoy is talking about Durmstrang (the one where they're on the train, I can't recall the title now). I doubt, however that it was only pure-bloods, because Malfoy said something along the lines of "Mudblood riffraff", so it is possibly accessible to half-bloods as well.

Pureblooded[edit]

Do we know for certain he's a pureblood? I can't recall it ever coming up really, and other than the fact that Durmstrang only allows in purebloods (and that Death Eaters aren't too fond of muggleborns), I don't think you can really assume he's pure. After all, he might be a halfblood like Snape. Mukkakukaku 05:03, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Bulgaria[edit]

I always assumed Durmstrang was from Bulgaria, since Krum played on their Quidditch team. CirrusHead 21:56, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge[edit]

Karkaroff should be merged with Dark Wizards. The article contains lots of stuff not related to the books, or lots of speculation. Lord Opeth 19:10, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to attempt a general clean-up and rewriting to remove the in-universe and the OR material; I suspect it will leave a fairly short article, which should probably be merged somewhere. Magidin 15:30, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Complete rewrite[edit]

I have attempted a complete rewrite, along the lines of other articles (such as that for Severus Snape). Following Wikipedia's Manual of Style for writing about fiction, the article should have a real-world primary frame of reference, and should not be in-universe. Most of the article as it existed was in-universe. In addition, much of the article contained conjecture and guesses, which would original research. However, information gained from statements made by J. K. Rowling in other writings or interviews are acceptable, so feel free to add such information if you can provide a reliable source. Though I removed a lot of information, feel free to add it back provided it is directly relevant to Karkaroff and can be suitably referenced. The article also needs a pass to give chapter references, though I cannot do it right now. Finally, remember that British spelling should be sued throughout as per WikiProject Harry Potter. Thanks.
