{{unblock}} My work terminal is behind 142.32.208.231, which apparently is blocked. Most unfortunate, since I can't discuss a potentially-bogus article I ran across. My ISP is not an ISP but a large organization which will not be willing to make changes on its end, I'll wager; what's my chance of using (vs merely reading) WP from work, even if logged in?

I don't think there's that much we can do unless you can find another IP to log onto. Sorry. Sasquatch t|c 17:59, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's not my IP; that's the gateway behind which my terminal sits. The entire organization uses that gateway. I'm not sure if/what you're suggesting. Hacking gov computers may be too much effort on my end, and I'd be disappointed if WP can't elevate my access with proper authentication to the point where I'm no longer in this Second Class of citizens as long as I log in, or will not consider revoking the block because of its massive scope. What's the hope, that other employees will crusade within the organization and bring the anonymous transgressor to wikijustice? Bishop 22:40, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I've re-blocked the IP in question but allowed logged in users such as yourself to edit -- Tawker 01:06, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, look: Blocked from the workplace again. Apparently I'm a vandal again, although I don't so much remember editing any articles with highly-charged themes, and I don't see a method to check out whatever changes spurred the summary judgement. Is there a new block preventing my LoginID from posting, something which changed between 16July and now?
Yeah, checked again to be sure I was logged in last time. Yep. Now to magically deduce whether I was auto-blocked or not auto-blocked, in whatever apparently arbitrary context is relevant. Careful! Apparently choosing the wrong one will prevent the other from working. And here I was ready to flip a coin. I'm currently curious whether there's a super-really-verifiable un-blocker mechanism, or if my effort will earn me another random block - on my username! What did I do?!? - a month or so down the road. The next question is whether I earn less or more blocks when I don't edit a thing in a month. Bishop 23:07, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
and unblocked again. yay! Bishop 18:54, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Localisation fix[edit]

I saw you do a "localisation fix" at sudosh, changing "then"(sic) to "from". I've seen the than/from change made a few times recently. I infer from this that "than" is of locally-limited use or meaning, and that "from" is more general. I've never heard of this! Could you enlighten me? — Saxifrage 22:42, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's not a big deal, really; it's a more correct and exact form of the phrase that most modern English speakers don't even recognize as such. Had the original text not been completely wrong for the locale, I would not have made the change; while I was there, however, I changed it as well as I could have. While I consider the former form completely incorrect - similar to 'emails' or 'mails' as pluralized nouns - there are some remote locales where residents don't know the difference, and we have to account for potentially diverse peoples such as those. In the end, 'different than' is completely valid in speech and common writing and it's nowhere near as glaring an error as, say, 'different then' -- for regular English, of course.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer be able to have them marked as minor by default. For more information on what a minor edit is, see WP:MINOR or feel to get in touch.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:48, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
