Opus Dei[edit]

Opus Dei has approximately 85,000 odd members in sixty countries, with central offices in Rome. In 1982 it was erected as a Personal Prelature by Pope John Paul II, who also canonized its founder on October 6, 2002.

Have you met any? Maybe it was right already.

I'm sure it was right and they're all very odd :) Just in case I misconstrued your comment - I deleted "odd" because it was made redundant by the "approximately", and is too conversational in style for an encyclopaedia IMHO.

I'm still inexperienced around Wikipedia - wasn't sure whether to reply on my own discussion page or yours - so I did both! Cheers. Jez 22:49, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Anti gay strike force[edit]

Hello. I think the VfD tag you placed on his page is not needed, since an message to an admin about the user name is the right course of action. Wikipedia blocks offense user names, but not by the VfD process. Zscout370 00:13, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • I recived a comment on my talk page that this user and a annon. IP address are the same people doing that stuff in the Sandbox. If this get's tiring, I will try to get an admin involved. Thanks for removing the VfD tag. Zscout370 00:24, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • No problem. Thanks for pointing out the VfD tag wasn't necessary. I'm still pretty much a newbie around here.Jez 00:49, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

pending deletion idiot[edit]

Thanks for reverting the pending deletion tag from my user page. It was a "thank you" for reverting the person's other vandalism, I think. FreplySpang (talk) 03:34, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Idiot accuses me of vandalism - re: Jeb Bush article[edit]

Take a look at the first version of this page dated 22/04/2005 if you want the details of the shrill fool and her accusations of vandalism. Jez 09:13, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Jez — I'm trying to clean up the Jeb Bush article while trying not to bite the newbies. Any additional help would be appreciated, even if only on the talk page. Thanks much. --BaronLarf 19:05, Apr 24, 2005 (UTC)
    • Oops. It took me a while for the penny to drop. I shouldn't bite the newbies. You're absolutely right. I was initially fairly brusque after being accused of vandalism, but not overtly rude. Then the accusations increased in spite of my explanations for my edit. That pissed me off and I ended up being rude to the person in question - the wrong thing to do, I know. I apologise for my rudeness, SummerFR. Jez 01:18, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
      • No need to place this in my talk page, though it might placate SummerFR a bit if you posted this in his.  :^) --BaronLarf 01:52, Apr 25, 2005 (UTC)

Note to Jez: Your "sneaky vandalism" is not covered up by calling me an "idiot" and a "shrill fool." A human being who is genuinely interested in expanding the universe of knowledge would never have acted the way you did toward me in this matter, from the start. And, a real man -- not a political hack as you seem to be -- would apologize to me, and say he won't do it again. I was willing to let this all go. But, since you are instead slandering me all over the place, I am seeking to have you banned, due to your on-going harassment.

  • Funny how you equate "disagreement" with "harassment". Jez

And, BTW, although you made a point of saying you live abroad, I don't believe for a minute you live in England, just as a polite disagreement to that point you made, in addition to your other lies. SummerFR 16:29, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • I am English and I live in the North West of England. Jez

PS Here is wikipedia's statement on its prohibition of personal attacks, and I am reporting you right now for your repeated personal attacks against me here, on this page, and on Joy's page, and, on the discussion page of the article:

"Harassing or making personal attacks We have a clear policy on Wikipedia of no personal attacks, and harassing other contributors is not allowed. Some forms of harassment are also clear cases of vandalism,.... "

Just FYI. SummerFR 17:28, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

To JEZ -- I want you to know I did report you, and I hope you are banned. I realize it may or may not happen, and it may or may not take awhile. But, you calling me an "idiot" on this page and other names elsewhere, repeatedly, in retaliation for my true complaint of your "sneaky vandalism" is no way to behave on a public forum. If you do get banned, good luck on your next forum. SummerFR 21:46, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • YAWN - goodbye. Jez 22:22, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Well, I looked at your contributions and I didn't find vandalism, although some of the comments were slightly rude. The admins and many of the respected Wikipedians say you're vandalizing, but I didn't see you do that. I'm totally confused. What's going on? — Stevey7788 (talk) 03:12, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
    • Thanks. Certainly some of my comments have been rather rude. I have a low patience threshold for certain types of people... However, I fully recognise that I was wrong to descend to name-calling last week. In that particular case, I started out as civil but brusque - I had been accused of vandalism, after all, and it escalated from there. Do many respected really Wikipedians think I'm a vandal? If they do, they've never stopped by my talk page to accuse me. I'd be delighted to hear from them. You couldn't find any evidence of vandalism on my part for the simple reason that I have never vandalised Wikipedia. This whole thing has trundled on long enough. I hope this is the last I hear of it. Jez 15:21, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Brigitte von Boch scam - Phonebook of the World part of it?[edit]

Thanks for the info on Brigitte von Boch. I hadn't heard of this before. The same user is writing Phonebook of the World. Is this part of the scam? - Tεxτurε 17:43, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. It's weird. The "Brigitte von Boch" entry appeared as a new page on the recent additions log. It was a much lengthier piece of barely literate nonsense about an elderly lady wanting to find foreign phone numbers, with an external URL (http://www.brigittevonboch.com/) at the bottom. It was then deleted (by the author?) before I could edit it as VfD - and was immediately re-introduced in the shorter form that you deleted. That entry, along with the other one you mentioned (that in my opinion should also be deleted), are pretty obviously just vehicles to point to all these "phonebookof[countryname].com" sites - take a look at some of the links on the Phonebook of the World page and see what you think. Those pages do provide links to online phone directories in all the countries mentioned, but isn't this merely link-spamming to have an article advertising the site? There is already a link to phonebookoftheworld.com on the Telephone directory entry. Jez 18:02, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted the longer Brigitte article. It was obviously not an article but something else. (test, joke, spam, etc.) The Phonebook of the World does sound like an advert. Are you going to VfD it? If Brigitte reappers I will delete it again. I can't delete Phonebook of the World since it cannot be taken as strict nonsense. - Tεxτurε 18:07, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

VfD tagged. Jez 18:22, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your user page[edit]

Glad to see another vigilant user on speedy/revert patrol. Have you noticed that your user page is blank? Since it appears to have been that way for some time, I didn't know if you wanted it reverted or not. Keep up the good work! Mr Bound 01:17, May 18, 2005 (UTC)

  • Thanks! I just haven't got round to putting anything on the page yet. Looking at the page history, it seems it was vandalised and then reverted. And I hadn't even noticed! Jez 01:19, 18 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • Glad to help. Mr Bound 01:23, May 18, 2005 (UTC)

Toshitsugu Takamatsu[edit]

I have removed the speedy deletion tag from the Toshitsugu Takamatsu article, as it clearly does not seem to fit any of the criteria for speedy deletion. Please review the Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion. If you still feel that the article qualifies, feel free to add the tag again. If you do, please keep in mind that it is good etiquette to add your reasoning in the talk page for the article. Thank you very much.

Subst template[edit]

Hi Jez, keep up the good work fighting off the vandals. Don't forget to substitute templates with section headers (such as {{Welcome2}} and {{idw}}) when you use them on talk pages - it reduces server load, and prevents accidental blanking of the template. -- BMIComp (talk) 9 July 2005 01:32 (UTC)

Manchester Bombing[edit]

I agree with you that it was a terrorist attack, but putting such language into the article only 'forces' Lapsed_Pacifist into blocking edits, in order that he can continue his POV war with anyone that disagrees. I believe that the article can be left alone without mentioning terrorism, because that's a tacit implication bearing in mind who was involved. Nearside 02:04, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
