Messmer[edit]

Pierre Messmer *20.03.1916 - Prime Minister 07.07.1972 / 28.05.1974 ???? -- Robodoc.at 16:34, 20 Apr 2004 (UTC)

?[edit]

Question the André Augestad entry. No Google matches. Causeur doesn't translate either; There is exactly one occurrence of the word in wikipedia, so it is easy to guess the meaning from the context, as conversationalist who sparks lively discussion; but there is nothing explicit about the word, currently. Unknown character defined as "Max or Maximillian Button" keeps spamming. Please stop him and ban IP if he comes back.

Star Trek[edit]

While perhaps its importance may be disputed, April 5, 2063 is the date of First Contact in Star Trek. Interesting bits of trivia are some of the best things you find in encyclopediae, and this entry's not exactly stimulating anyway. Just a thought. ;) 68.102.179.135 02:29, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Day articles are about real events, not details of sci-fi programmes or films. Jim Michael (talk) 03:40, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

TV show entry - not significant[edit]

I welcome your thoughts on the following. I removed this entry as not significant: "*2001 - Lisa Fowler was revealed as the would be assassin in the EastEnders storyline Who Shot Phil". I do not believe fictional details of plot lines from TV shows is notable for the events section. Any thoughts? Thanks, Hu Gadarn 15:48, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, and I'd like to say the same for 2007's entry. Besides not being very important, as of this writing, it hasn't even happened yet... Ravenwolf Zero 22:39, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Birth: 1992 - David Crowley, NBA hall of famer[edit]

Ok, I'm European and know nothing about NBA, but David Crowley doesn't look 15.. and a 15-year old in the hall of fame sounds strange to me... --130.89.189.208 23:43, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I can't find anything at all about his being in the NBA. I also can't find anything about his year of birth. I suggest either that somebody fix this link or that it be removed. Williw 00:50, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tax year[edit]

Could anybody tell me why my note that 5th April is the start of the tax year in the UK has been removed? It's pretty important, I would've thought?....Martyn Smith (talk) 20:49, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There are three reasons that your entry was removed. The first is that it did not link to a supporting article. Second, it was created under a new heading and new headings must be discussed before they are added. Third is that (since it wasn't linked) it was impossible to discern from the listing that it was a date of significance to everyone in the UK. Does the average person mark it on their calendar? -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 20:59, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good Friday[edit]

I believe I read somewhere that the death-date of Jesus, the true Good Friday, could be calculated by quite a few factors from the Bible, including a lunar eclipse, to have been on April 5, 33. I believe this would be in the Gregorian calendar. It would be nice to create at least a note on the page about that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Elium2 (talkcontribs) 13:26, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, it looks like I forgot to sign. Oh well. Elium2 (talk) 13:28, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are close on this, but looking at the calendar for 33 comes up with a date of Good Friday to be on Friday, April 3 (Julian calendar), which would be April 1st in the Gregorian calendar (not existing at that time). April 5, 33 would have been Easter. 99.107.199.30 (talk) 20:06, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Anti War Demos[edit]

OK, the page states that anti-war demonstrations took place in ‘many US cities’.

Unfortunately, the link to the ‘Opposition to US involvement in the Vietnam War’ article doesn’t mention this in it’s timeline: indeed, it only mentions a demo, the day afterwards.

Can we get some sort of clean up on that, please?

Thanks!

UK tax year[edit]

Reviving the proposal (apparently last discussed inconclusively in 2008) that there should be some mention on this page of the UK tax year. Strictly speaking, 5 April is not the start but the end of the tax year (i.e. the year runs 6 April to 5 April). However, owing to an arcane legal usage that "from" means "from the end of", 5 April is the date by which it's always colloquially known, and tax documentation consistently refers to income received "in the year ending 5 April 2021" (or whatever). There is a detailed discussion and explanation of the background at History of taxation in the United Kingdom#Why the United Kingdom income tax year begins on 6 April. There's a brief entry for the tax year under April 6#Other, linking to Fiscal year#United Kingdom, but in my opinion there should be one here as well. In reply to Mufka's question from 2008, "Does the average person mark it on their calendar?", the answer is probably no: but it's a date that anyone who is self-employed, or who has to complete a tax return for other reasons, is acutely aware of. It would require a new section, presumably "Other". GrindtXX (talk) 18:20, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No objections or comments, so I've added it. GrindtXX (talk) 00:01, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Racehorse[edit]

There should also be some mention on this page of April the Fifth, a famous British racehorse – either in an "Other" section, or in the form of a hatnote. GrindtXX (talk) 18:23, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No objections or comments, so I've added it. GrindtXX (talk) 00:01, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of contribution[edit]

Hello all.

I recently had one of my contributions on this page (1965 – Seventeen people die and 217 are injured in an earthquake in the Peloponnese, Greece.) deleted by @Kiwipete on the grounds that the event itself (i.e. the death of these people) should have been an article in Wikipedia as per the new rules.

After a brief talk of this user's talk page, the rest of my replies have been deleted and I find that I can no reply on their talk page. So, I offer my suggestions here, hoping that my query is finally explained.

As mentioned in the user's talk page, there are other new contributions that simply don't follow this rule. Some examples from the same article: - 1614 – In Virginia, Native American Pocahontas marries English colonist John Rolfe. (the wedding itself is not a Wikipedia entry) - 1621 – The Mayflower sets sail from Plymouth, Massachusetts on a return trip to England. (the fact itself of the boat setting sail is not a Wikipedia entry) 1792 – United States President George Washington exercises his authority to veto a bill, the first time this power is used in the United States. (this particular veto itself is nota Wikipedia entry)

Could, someone, please explain on what grounds my original contribution is not as valid as the ones mentioned here? (Please, note that my contribution did include a valid reference.) Your help would be much appreciated, as I plan to contribute regularly and I'd like to do this properly!

Thank you very much in advance! Avacalop (talk) 06:21, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The full discussion between myself and Avacalop hasn't been deleted - it can be viewed here: User talk:Kiwipete/Archive_1#Deletion_of_contribution_query. Kiwipete (talk) 10:08, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Kiwipete.
I went through the new rules again and saw that:
-The births and deaths listed on this page are only for people for whom there is a Wikipedia article (no red links and no redirects). Please do not add yourself (unless there is a Wikipedia article about you), or anyone without a Wikipedia article. Any entry added for anyone without an article will be deleted.
-The events listed on this page should be notable in that society and for some reasonable amount of time. Further guidelines for what should and should not be included are provided at Wikipedia:Days of the year. Events not meeting these guidelines will be removed.
Can you please direct me to the rule that all events mentioned should also be articles themselves? Your help would be much appreciated, I would genuinly like to know! And, of course, please go ahrad and delete my contribution, but first, please, please, please, point me to this rule. Avacalop (talk) 15:43, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have now revised my contribution, which I find compliant with the above rules. If not, please direct me to the specific rule that is violated. I hope you feel the same. Thank you so much in advance! Avacalop (talk) 16:00, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have reverted your edits as the links earthquake, Peloponnese and Greece do not mention the event which is a requirement as per WP:DOYSTYLE for any new additions to days of the year articles. An example of what is needed can be found at the 1936 entry which links 1936 Tupelo–Gainesville tornado outbreak although it was added before the sourcing rules changed and a reference has not yet been added You also added an unsourced entry into the deaths section which is also mentioned in the style guide. Suonii180 (talk) 08:58, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not getting involved in the debate as to whether or not this event meets WP:DOY or WP:DOYSTYLE criteria, but, for the record, this earthquake is noted at List of earthquakes in 1965, including the claim that 32 people were killed and 200 were injured (making it the 4th deadliest earthquake of the year), and a reliable source. MJF DAY?[edit]

why is it not added 😂 81.98.250.230 (talk) 23:09, 7 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Because you have not provided a reliable source, and there is no mention of it in the article on Maxwell Jacob Friedman. GrindtXX (talk) 23:34, 7 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
