Concerning your comments at Talk:1948 Arab-Israeli War, Please be proactive and work on the article itself. Of course you are right that there are lots of problems with the article as it stands. Btw, the Bernadotte assassination is at Folke Bernadotte and Lehi so maybe no more than a pointer is needed here. -- zero 06:10, 24 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:PlanViewPascuaLama.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:PlanViewPascuaLama.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:PlanViewPascuaLama.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:PlanViewPascuaLama.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Image:PlanViewPascuaLama.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:PlanViewPascuaLama.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 03:49, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:Earthsound/spamwatch[edit]

Salutations Earthsound! Recently the subpage User:Earthsound/Spamwatch had been vandalised here. I think it was intentional since the IP address had an history of adding spam links. I'm too ignorant on how Bryanbot works but if this is important, shouldn't protection be requested on such a page? It looks quite important to me, anyway do the needful. -Ugog Nizdast (talk) 17:32, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the effort, however it's a pointer to the spam blacklist talk page and is automatically updated by bryanbot. The entries aren't outside links. :) Take care! Earthsound (talk) 01:59, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Then it's all good and I simply worried. Anyway, thanks for your time. Have a nice day, Ugog Nizdast (talk) 06:29, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Solar eclipse of July 28, 1851[edit]

Reviewing your change to this article: are you saying that there were earlier correctly-exposed photographs of solar eclipses? Removing the claim that this was the first implies that there were others. While the corona is an important part of the photograph, it might reasonably be implied that a correctly-exposed photo of the eclipse would include the corona. The reverse isn't obviously the case. If there's no evidence of an earlier correctly-exposed photograph of a solar eclipse, then the previous wording would seem to be preferable, since that would be at least as significant, and include the presumption that the corona was also correctly exposed. P Aculeius (talk) 00:28, 21 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, earlier, correctly exposed photographs of eclipses were made before this one, though not of a total eclipse to my knowledge (and none have survived AFAIK). It would be incorrect to assume that a correctly exposed photo of an eclipse would include the corona which is why his photos of totality that day were so useful at the time. Previously, sketches were used to record observations of the corona based on memory of the event. What the corona was and where it came from were debated and not understood at the time. Additionally, coronagraphs didn't exist until the 1930s, so observing the corona was only possible during totality. I'm going to take another stab at cleaning up the intro a bit in an attempt to be more accurate and concise. Earthsound (talk) 18:56, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2019 US Banknote Contest[edit]

US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
