Merge[edit]

While I can appreciate the goal that B.Wind was going after in 2008, following is why I have created the new page and made this change.

First, as I was looking for defunct NFL teams in the corresponding list, I could not find the Brooklyn Lions. In his attempt to redirect and streamline the information, those category tags were removed. I did not realize this problem at first, but after trying to smooth things out, I discovered the problem.

Second, I can appreciate his opinion that "more notable" players played for the Horsemen, however, the AFL / Horseman franchise folded. It was absorbed by the NFL franchise, so if either page were to redirect to the other, the original Lions page should have remained and the Horsemen page should have been redirected to there.

Third, I started to do that. I started to split that information back up, reclaim the Lions information on the Lions page, remove the Lions and Lions-Horsemen information from the Horsemen page and send it all back to where it more appropriately should have been.

After working on it a bit, and thinking about it some more, it occurred to me that neither of those is the most efficient way to do this. No, the Horsemen information does not belong on a Lions page; and no, the Lions info or the merged-team's info doesn't belong on the Horsemen page.

The solution, as you can see... a third, completely independent and separate page. Now, the Lions and the Horsemen will both show up on the list of defunct teams, and since they were both a creation inspired by the existence of the other, and since they both did merge together to finish the season, it is appropriate to credit both teams in the title to the page.Jstuck21677 (talk) 17:34, 8 March 2014 (UTC)jstuck21677[reply]

Since the Brooklyn Horsemen and Brooklyn Lions both existed only for one year (and having merged as the Horsemen for the last three games of the 1926), I'd suggest merging the articles here. While the Lions played eight games before the merger and there were "only" seven Horsemen games (four in the AFL, three in the NFL), a few "more notable" Brooklyn players actually were Horsemen for the entire season, and the two teams' combined history should be treated in the merged article. Owner of the Lions[edit]

The owner of the 1926 Brooklyn Lions was a man named Edmund Butle. I did not want to edit and mess anything up so I will cite some source material and let you decide. On March 17, 1892, Edmund Butler was born in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn.
