At the moment nothing links here and I will watch and try to sort out anything that does. I thought the page might provide a little explanation for the lost traveller anyway and hope it will be useful. Nevilley 01:08 Dec 23, 2002 (UTC)

Since "the English County Durham is never referred to by the name Durham County", we might as well redirect here to the US one, and put a footnote there just in case. -- Tarquin 11:11 Dec 23, 2002 (UTC)

I did consider that but thought this was better in that it catches the misunderstanding earlier. On past history there is a risk of people meaning the English one pointing to here, and I thought it better to let them do so and be caught here than to send their readers off willy-nilly to North Carolina. I also thought it would be easier for people trying to help (me for instance!) to spot problems if they just watched this page's links. But maybe I'm wrong. I summary I would rather it stayed like this, but do not have very strong feelings about it! Nevilley 11:21 Dec 23, 2002 (UTC)
County Durham is not "Never" called Durham County. National Statistics' web site calls it that and it is the Durham County Council, etc. Rmhermen 15:34 10 Jul 2003 (UTC)
I have not looked at the ONS web site but will. DCC is irrelevant: it is a County Council whose name is Durham. Your logic does not work - we do not speak of, say, "Yorkshire County" merely becase there is a body called "Yorkshire County Council", or whatever - you are attaching "county" to the wrong thing. Two examples, one of them wrong, do not make a significant usage, and I have again removed ther statement that it is sometimes called that. Nevilley
I had a look at the ONS website. They are using County to disambiguate from the district, and they have to have it that way round because they will otherwise mess up the alphabetical order. It's not a credible example of a true usage, sorry. N.
