1955 or 1956?[edit]

This article claims that Peter Churchill and Odette Sansom were divorced in 1955. However, her article claims it was 1956. Both the infobox and the last sentence of ‘post-war and controversy’ show 1956. Where do you see 1955? MrArmstrong2 (talk) 14:47, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

MrArmstrong2 Thank you for raising the issue. Sourcing indicates they were indeed divorced in 1955 Coretheapple (talk) 17:44, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Related to Winston?[edit]

In the film Odette, a German officer refers to Odette as "a relative of the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill". This was presumably through her marriage to Peter Churchill. But this article makes no such claim. I guess all Churchills are ultimately related, but what was the precise linkage? -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 06:34, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

They did not get married until after the war. Their cover story when they were arrested was that Peter Churchill was related to Winston Churchill hoping it would protect him, and that he was married to Odette to protect her as well. The Germans believed it and despite each being sentenced to death they both survived the war.MrArmstrong2 (talk) 14:52, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 07:47, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Come to think of it, it may not be a bad idea to mention in the article that he was not related to Winston Churchill but that this was offered to the Nazis to keep him alive. Coretheapple (talk) 15:22, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a sentence clarifying that. Oddly, the freely available New York Times obit is not already being used as a source. Coretheapple (talk) 17:03, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
