Most of these Chinatowns aren't in Australasia, they're in Oceania! Only the Australia and Papua New Guinea ones are in "Australasia".

This material was just removed:

Other groups of Chinese travelled from South Korea, South Africa, Australia, Latin America, and other Pacific Islands. Chinese and other Asians such as Thais, Koreans, Vietnamese, and Filipinos reside together in New Zealand's Chinatowns, making them multi-Asian places."

This seems perfectly valid and relevant to me but since I have absolutely no knowledge on this subject I won't revert the change. I think it should have been backed with some more information.

Completely true. Otago University, for example, has close to 10% of its students now coming from South East Asia. And the Asian communities of most of the major centres are multi-ethnic rather than simply "China"towns. Grutness|^hello?

The major problem is that there aren't any clear-cut definitoins and criteria of what a "Chinatown" is. There is a tendency to label and lump all Asians as "Chinese" (are all Europeans of French or of Slavic origin?) and perhaps assume a label of "Chinatown" to describe an Asian community. I do remember an newspaper article a few years back erroneously calling an ethnic Korean immigrant community a "Chinatown".

You could at least provide some streets of these so-called "multi-Asian places". You should also provide a link to newspaper articles that mention them.

The trouble there is that, in Dunedin at least, there are no specific streets, and there are two distinct waves of Asian migration - in the 1860s with the goldrush (Chinese) and in the 1990s (South East Asian). Traditionally Rattray Street was the Chinatown in the 19th century, and there are still several businesses there run by the Chinese community, but it certainly no longer has the feeling associated with a Chinatown. But Dunedin is very much a university city, and nearly 20% of its population are tertiary students. With 1/10 of these students coming from China, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, and Cambodia, the proportion of properties and businesses run by and for the Asian community increases as you approach the university. The northern part of Dunedin's CBD has many Asian-oriented businesses, but it's a far more amorphous thing here. (if you feel any of this is worth putting in the article itself, feel free!) Does Grutness know enough about the Chinese and Chinatowns in New Zealand?[edit]

I have read the article about Chinatowns (and the Chinese) in New Zealand which Grutness appear to "own". It seems to me that he doesn't have sufficient background to write an accurate article. The overall impression is incorrect. For example:

"Chinese and other Asians such as Thais, Koreans, Vietnamese, and Filipinos reside together in New Zealand's Chinatowns, making them multi-Asian places."

is simply incorrect. Where are these Chinatown? There are no real Chinatowns in NZ at present.

My additions to the article were to do with the historical aspects of Chinese settlement in Dunedin, reorganising the article under more logical headers, and adding a photograph. I suggest you ask the person who added that part of the article. You will also note in the conversation above on this page that I point out that southeast Asian communities in New Zealand are far more amorphous than in a "true" Chinatown. In the case of the line you refer to in the article, that was User:203.160.183.15. I also suggest that you read the page history properly before you start flinging accusations around based on incorrect assumptions. And this is a wiki. No-one "owns" an article.
