I only listed them the other way because that was what was already being done, but wouldn't it make more sense to have them listed by city rather than channel number? Kirjtc2 18:23, 23 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Agreed. It may still be coherent in states that don't have any (or many) duplicate channel numbers, but in states with lots of stations it's silly. Listing by city would make much more sense. Iroll 22:57, 9 Mar 2004 (UTC)

I have started doing that with the following: Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. However, the work is long and prone to errors, so if any one of you want to continue this project, go right ahead (but please follow the format as seen with Massachusetts, which I am using).

The way I am doing this is by looking up lists of DMA's in the US and grouping the stations accordingly. For any stations whose cities are questionable, I look up their ZIP codes and use titantv.com to ascertain the nearest DMA (by matching station listings in Titan TV to the station group listings here). Digital[edit]

With the advent of digital TV broadcast channels, should we list those? Specifically, even if they are just digital retransmission of existing analog broadcasts?

I notice that, as a general rule, repeater stations are not included unless they are independently registered (i.e. 3/4-letter callsign, as opposed to the typical repeater callsign format).

Massive problems[edit]

I just moved this page from "List of television stations in North and Central America" to here ("Lists of television stations in North America") because Canada-U.S.-Mexico is generally referred to as just North America. If you want to include Central America, you would have to include Guatemala, etc. Which could be done, but it might as well go on a separate page since that's not how it's being done now.

Unfortunately, this move has created a lot of redirects[1]. Maintaining "linkages" using Categories is a much better idea than direct interlinking through "See also" lists.

Inclusion of info on The CW[edit]

I propose the following lines for each market.

If a market has a station already confirmed to receive the CW Network...

NOTE: {{{station callsign}}} will pick up The CW in the {{{market city}}} market when UPN and The WB merge in Fall 2006.

If a market has both a UPN and a WB station, but neither are confirmed to receive CW...

NOTE: It is unknown at this time which station will pick up The CW in the {{{market name}}} market when UPN and The WB merge in Fall 2006.

If a market has either network, but not both (or one of the networks shares time with another on the same station, like in Jacksonville, Florida), yet it has not been officially confirmed to carry CW...

NOTE: It is assumed (but not certain) that {{{station callsign}}} will pick up The CW in the {{{market name}}} market when UPN and The WB merge in Fall 2006 since there is no {{{network they don't have}}} station in the market.

If a market has neither UPN or The WB, there is no need for any message.

I have already done this to the list of television stations in Florida. Look at that for examples. I have yet (as of posting this) to do this to the list by station number.

Re: Listing of Digital Stations[edit]

Hi, I'm part of Wikipedia's Project New Jersey, and a radio/television/cable TV engineer. I took the New Jersey list of television stations and created listings for analog and digital VHF, and analog and digital UHF stations in the great Garden State. This should be done throughout Wikipedia for all the remaining states and territories. Generally, I only list those stations that are currently licensed, not those with a construction permit (CP) or Special Temporart Authority (STA). With the thousands of currently licensed digital television stations at this point, the addition of digital stations where needed is is way overdue.Rblaster 16:20, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

estaciones de televisión en México[edit]

It looks like List of television stations in Mexico is the national list, not a list specific to Mexico (state). The per-state lists are mostly outdated (2002) or incomplete; the national list has all except the information as to what is being rebroadcast on all of these repeaters (for instance, Mexico has four Televisa stations repeated endlessly into various regions - so identifying a station as Televisa-owned based on cofetel.gob.mx doesn't identify which of the stations it rebroadcasts).

Would it be worth taking the cofetel data from List of television stations in Mexico and splitting it into the individual states? --8VSB (talk) 12:59, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
