Character qualms[edit]

Something's been bothering me. Ever since Gunstar Super Heroes came out, it seems like people have been merging the characters of that game with the characters of this game... and this doesn't settle with me (let alone the fact that the Stages section of that page is a direct copyvio of this page's Stages section). Can anyone supply the manual for THIS game so I can do a little fact-checking? Because Gunstar Heroes is NOT the same thing as Super Heroes... --Shadow Hog 04:55, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's suggested in the storyline of Gunstar Super Heroes that the lead characters are actually the descendants of the stars of Gunstar Heroes. It's not stated explicitly, but very strongly implied. --M.Neko 08:25, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gun Heroes Vs. Super Heroes[edit]

Gunstat Heroes or Super Heroes may follow each other for story line, but they both sound like fine games to me. I've played Gunstar Heroes when I was young and the levels still have that same intense play it had on me.

Anyways, whether or not the story follows each other from Super Heroes, I'm pretty sure it is only a suggestion to the story line. Gunstar Heroes Rule!!! --Zhang Liao 08:34, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The game takes place 15 years later. Red and Blue are both teens in this game. If they were the same people, that would make their age in GH 0 to 3 yrs. Sabre Knight 19:03, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ports[edit]

As far as I know, the Wii version is no Port but an emulated Version of the game. Therefore I think we could remove that Wii reference.

Plot[edit]

The story is all wrong. Red and Blue defeated Golden Silver in the past and then entered some sort of sleep status. The professor had nothing to do with it. This is straight out of the Japanese manual. I'll need to edit this later. Bombman 20:06, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Game Gear[edit]

I'm going to simply list the changes that was made to the Game Gear version:
1. The 4 main stages in the Genesis version were reduced to 3 in the Game Gear version, cutting Black. Enemies from this stage were not present in the Game Gear version whatsoever.
2. Enemy sprites for the helmet Empire enemies were not added - instead they recycled their lower rank counterpart and added a sparkling aura about them to separate them. It's also safe to assume they use the same spritesheet containing the special animations only given to the helmet enemies.
3. Green's Stage makes use of the Jetpacks that the Empire soldiers used in Orange's Stage, which you must use.
3B. Green's Stage is also extremely reduced in size, again most likely due to Game Gear limitations.
3C. Smash Daisaku does not appear in Green's Stage, instead he's shown in Orange's Stage playing a similar role of throwing Empire soldiers at you, before escaping by using his jetpack.
4. Several Cutscenes from the Genesis version were altered to work on the Game Gear. Some do a whiteout/blackout technique to change the background, while others just simply do some cleanup and background.
5. Stage 5, or in the Game Gear version, Stage 4, was slightly shortened. It only included 1 of the Mechs and Hovering Platforms where the Genesis included a lot more.
6. Stage 6, or in the Game Gear version, Stage 5, was totally reworked - instead of flying through space, the player is somehow placed in the ship already, in the Mech included from the 16-bit version. Additionally, all but the Unit of the Runner were removed from the Game Gear version and replaced with a unit infused with Unit of the Hammer and Unit of the Dragon, called Unit of the Atom.
7. Stage 7, or in the Game Gear version, Stage 6, is changed to accommodate the exclusion of Black. So straight from Orange's battle, you go into Green's, and no elevator is provided.
8. Multiple bosses that exist lost some of their moves from the Genesis version, with the exception of Orange who gained a new move to counter the Genesis exploitation of his AI, called "Jake Shaker".
9. Some glitches that are present in the Game Gear version are not present in the Genesis version.
10. The intro was slightly altered, again to accommodate Black's exclusion from the Game Gear version.
11. The stage selection screen is made of one screen, in which the movement buttons will change stages.

    I took no issue with the sources except for The Next Level, which I'm not familiar with. I checked the staff page, and while there are a number of people involved, none of them seem to have a history or credentials for their position. I also could not find an editorial policy on the website.

    The images all seem good except for the animated gif. I see the merit of the gif, but I take issue with its source being a forum. Is it possible to reproduce this image or find an alternative example? It would also be nice to see a caption for the box art.

Hey @Abryn, I promised the user I'd respond to this a while ago because they're on a Wikibreak right now. On the minecart/helicopter levels, I looked at gameplay footage and they don't seem like traditional autoscrolling (you still move left and right normally). The cited sources also don't describe them as such, so I think the way prose handles it now is fine. I do agree The Next Level is probably not the best source and it wouldn't harm to replace it, but I have seen it used in GAs and FAs with no problem. The source for the gif being a forum doesn't really strike me as much of a problem; it's not a copyright violation, and AFAIK sources for images don't have to be reliable for the encyclopedia (the relevant guideline doesn't say anything about that). TarkusAB should be back in less than a week, so while I think this is GA quality I also think we should wait to hear what he thinks. JOEBRO64 19:38, 15 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Abryn: OK I've removed The Next Level since they're coverage didn't add much commentary. However, I will say that if they are used to a greater extent in other articles, I think their reliability should be examined more closely. They have posted some exclusive interviews with industry leaders, and employed some writers that later wrote for other RSs, so it seems they have (or had, I think they're defunct) some degree of professionalism. Plot[edit]
