Untitled[edit]

Children's Books - 'The Doll's House' and 'Tottie, The story of a Dolls House' are the same book. The second one is a paperback version published in the 1980's. Katcocat (talk) 19:18, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lamb House[edit]

Works[edit]

I've tried to improve the list of her works by separating non-fiction and poetry from novels and stories. I've used the Anne Chisholm biography as a basis, but also consulted www.rumergodden.com and Amazon. The list of non-fiction and poetry is incomplete but I've decided not to add other books until I know something about them. Thursday's children is listed as a children's book in the biography but in her novels on the website. Since most of her children's books are illustrated and this one is probably not I've left it with the novels. St Jerome and the Lion is listed as non-fiction in the bography and a children's book on the website. There is an error in the list of Godden's works of poetry:

   "1968 A Letter to the World (written with Emily Dickinson)"

Not possible, since Emily was long dead before Rumer was born.

Pen name[edit]

The first sentence is this:

"Margaret Rumer Godden, OBE (December 10, 1907 – November 8, 1998), was an English author of over 60 fiction and nonfiction books under the pen name of Rumer Godden."

1. Not using the one's first name, does NOT constitute a penname!! I'm sure many of us know folks who go by their middle and last names, especially in cases where father and son share the same name. We certainly wouldn't call that a pseudonym, would we???  
2. Second part of sentence, lacks a verb. (Give me a break, I haven't had any English lessons in at least forty years!!)

The Help Page says:

Leading spaces are another way to preserve formatting.

Views, judgements about her work today?[edit]

Maybe she and her works and what kind of influence -if so- her work had are well known to people from English speaking/ Commonwealth-/ British-colonies- associated countries, but other Wikipedia users don't know her at all, even those interested in (early) female writers. (I myself came here via Bruce Willis' daughter's article! :-D) - To these it would be very interesting to see a paragraph about how her writings (and maybe life?) are viewed by today's literature scientists (not sure if that term exists in English?), maybe also by the Gender Studies, maybe sociologists, etc.; (if critics' opinions changed from her lifetime to now etc.); what do feminists think of her work; Are her books still read, or forgotten, or even would, so to speak, better be forgotten (maybe for colonialistic, maybe racist, maybe sexist portrayals, as exist in other writers' texts of her time)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:3033:D:4604:1:2:C5A0:1CFD (talk) 16:26, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Brahmaputra Steam Navigation Company[edit]

Did Brahmaputra Steam Navigation Company even exist? Apart from mentions related to Rumer Godden, there is no other mention of this company. According to my research, the routes were ran first by River Steam Navigation (RSN) and India General Steam Navigation Company. They later merged to become Joint Steamer Companies. Oddly they maintained separate management but had a single managing agent: MacNeill and Co (later MacNeill and Barry). 103.121.231.155 (talk) 12:56, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
