Hi, I'm Cathal. I'm an Irish independent scientist working toward making biotechnology and genetic engineering accessible to all. I've been contributing to biology and genetics articles on Wikipedia for years, though often while not logged in.

My interests include all realms of science and engineering, roleplaying games, self-sufficiency, programming, socially disruptive networking, emerging economic models and environmentally beneficent infrastructures.

I'm an active contributor on the DIYbio.org mailing list, a founding member of Nexus Cork makerspace, and I am working to develop Open Source DNA platforms through my one-man startup, Indie Biotech.

I can be found on Twitter and recently on Google Plus. I also have a personal blog called Letters.

I'm working on one or several wikipedia books:

Beginner's Guide to Biotechnology - A vastly oversized book introducing practical biotechnology methods through a series of introductory theory articles.

Bacteria Up Close - A refinement of the foregoing with expanded coverage of bacteria themselves.

Bacterial Chemotaxis - A page for "Bacteria Up Close" that focuses only on Bacterial behaviour; largely lifted from the Chemotaxis page. Bacterial Quorum Sensing - A page that strips the insect-related stuff out of Quorum sensing.
