Considered a Politician

The current version of the article says:

People who are politically active, especially in party politics. A person holding or seeking political office whether elected or appointed, whether professionally or otherwise. Positions range from Homeowner associations[1] and block watches[2] to executive, legislative and judicial offices of state and national governments.[3] Some law enforcement officers, such as sheriffs, are considered to be politicians.

The source (legal-explanations.com) cited for Homeowner associations says:

Homeowners' Association
(n) Homeowners Association is the  association of persons formed by the residents of a housing locality to address their common problems and  issues connected with their residence and living in that area. Such associations generally does crime watch, entertainment, sanitary activities etc were a collective action is required

and the source (dictionary.com) cited for block watches says:

neighborhood watch
noun
a neighborhood surveillance program or group in which residents keep watch over one another's houses, patrol the streets, etc., in an attempt to prevent crime.

These sources do not substantiate the assertions made that members of homeowners' associations and of neighborhood block watch units are considered politicians. These sources merely provide definitions for the terms.

Members of homeowners' associations and of neighborhood watch units are not generally considered politicians (although they might be considered politicians with regard to the activities of the local communities in some circumstances). A Homeowner association is a corporation formed by a real estate developer for the purpose of marketing, managing, and selling of homes and lots in a residential subdivision. It grants the developer privileged voting rights in governing the association, while allowing the developer to exit financial and legal responsibility of the organization, typically by transferring ownership of the association to the homeowners after selling off a predetermined number of lots. It allows a civil municipality to increase its tax base, but without requiring it to provide equal services to all of its citizens. Membership in the homeowners association by a residential buyer is typically a condition of purchase; a buyer isn't given an option to reject it. Some homeowner associations hire and retain property management companies. The board of directors is responsible for the retention of these companies.

They sound like politicians to me.

Tags understate the situation

Needs a gut rewrite. Fails on so many levels right now is just a good example of a bad article. First you need to make clear the difference between a politician and someone exercising authority on another basis, such as a monarch or military commander. Second the fine gradations of the political class and their activities and functions as such (distinct from the socially useful ones, the executed office) should form the body. Finally, as ever, the core concept needs to be made clear in the lede. A politician is a person who must obtain a consensus in a political body. Should current and recent candidates in the 2016 US Presidential election include politician among their notable occupations in the lead of their biographical articles, even if the candidate eschews the term? The most important characterization of a politician left out?

As long as I live I was under the presumption that a politician, at least in a democratic society, is a representative of the people by whom he/she was chosen.
