I had originally removed this comment:

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Here are some useful links in case you haven't already found them; *How to edit a page *How to write a great article *Naming conventions *Manual of Style If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Alexandros 15:00, 6 Dec 2003 (UTC)

But then I received this comment:

It is generally frowned upon to blank your user talk page. Alexandros

Well, that's fine. I'll keep things in here. I would certainly have kept something here if it was a discussion of myself or my involvement in the Wikipedia, but this does seem to be boilerplate text. Perhaps I could ask Alexandros to clarify a few points:

  1. Have I done something wrong? I was a little worried after receiving that welcome with all the links to the pages I've already read, especially so long after joining the wikipedia and contributing. I can't help but feel that something I have done has warranted this. If so, could you please gint as so what so that I can learn from my mistakes and not do so again.
  2. What information, exactly, should be put in a user's talk page? I would consider an article's talk page to be a place to talk about the article or the issues discussed within an article. As a logical extension, I would consider a user's talk page to be a place to discuss the user or contributions by that user. Perhaps you could clarify this?

  • You have done nothing wrong. I saw you were doing some good work, and I wanted to welcome you. It is boilerplate text, but I thought you might find it helpful. Sorry if I scared you. Best wishes, Alexandros 17:05, 7 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Thanks very much for the clarification. It's always good to be welcomed by people. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, trying to get things right and follow the accepted rules, so I was just a little worried that I'd done something wrong. Now that I know that's all it was it's definitely put my mind at rest. -- Darkhorse 17:16, 2003 Dec 7 (UTC)

  • No problem. I am sure you will do fine. If you ever have any questions about a wikipedia policy, feel free to ask me. Keep up the awesome work! Alexandros 17:19, 7 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Hi Darkhorse, there is currently no policy on whether you can or can not blank your own talk page. A lot of people do it. A lot of people find it bad wikiquette. It's being discussed on the Village pump at the moment and soon on Wikipedia talk:User page too if you're interested. Angela. 18:35, 7 Dec 2003 (UTC)
