Blocking of 138.38.32.84[edit]

You said: "Thanks for your judicious blocking of 138.38.32.84, while I understand that we've been the source of some persistent vandalism, this IP is a proxy address for the University of Bath UK (which is noted on the talk page (although with the wrong template (which i've updated))), which currently has over 20,000 users. While I understand we have had multiple blocks (4 x 24 hour blocks in the last year) I am not sure if this necessarily counts as persistent vandalism given the size of the university. Would you consider dropping (or reducing the duration) of the current 1 month block on these grounds?"

No, I will not consider this. However, I will soften the block so people can edit from a signed-in account that they have created elsewhere, as is common practise with school blocks. This will allow anyone with an account to continue editing the Wikipedia. Note that there is a good chance the block was already "soft" and so would not have prevented signed-in users. --Yamla 15:35, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I do, however, point out that your university is not being singled out. Most school IP addresses end up blocked in this manner. Students and faculty should still be able to contribute and I respect and support university sysadmins (though I have long since graduated myself). --Yamla 15:37, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Proper credit for your work[edit]

Sir,

I'd like to use your diagram of a heat pipe in a school report. How would you prefer that I give you credit for your work? Please let me know if this is ok with you.

Thanks, Kevinaj (talk) 21:10, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your permission, I will be sure to cite you!

Hey, just wanted to give you a quick thank-you for your graphic illustration of a heat pipe. Well done. Very helpful. That's all! KDS4444Talk 11:58, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Clyde-net[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Clyde-net, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

ClydeNET (the article doesn't even have the right title) is completely non-notable except as a component of JANET, which does have notability. In addition, there are no sources which provide more information about it than the fact that it is a component of JANET

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
