Fair use in Brave Words[edit]

Cover of The Chills' album Brave Words. Only to be used for the article on the album - this complies with all points of Wikipedia's policy on non-free cover art, as per criterion I1 of Wikipedia:Non-free content#Acceptable use.

There is No free equivalent. The image is not used in a manner that is likely to replace the original market role of the original copyrighted media. It has minimal usage. As cover art, it automatically has previous publication. It meets Wikipedia's content requirements and is encyclopedic. It meets Wikipedia's image-use policy. It is used in at least one article and is only used in articles. Its presence significantly increases readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding.

This description page contains an attribution, a copyright tag and the name of the article for which fair use is claimed.

Actually, it has had all of those for quite a while, but I just thought I'd spell things out more thoroughly since some bots are getting vindictively prissy about how they interpret such things, despite them being adequately covered by Wikipedia's policies. As such, such bots should have their licences revoked.

This image is of a cover of an audio recording, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the publisher of the work or the artist(s) which produced the recording or cover artwork in question. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of such covers solely to illustrate the audio recording in question, on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, qualifies as fair use under the copyright law of the United States.
