Most of the people on this list shouldnt be wikied. Theyre not famous enough. --Jiang
There's no need to decide that question when making the page now. If they're famous, write an article someday; if not, let the link stay red forever. There's no shame in that! More importantly, any of these people might become famous some decades later; then having a link here now will only help. After some time, we might revisit the issue, once we know that nobody else on this list will ever be famous since they're dead. But by then, our standards for coverage may be very different anyway. Again, no need to make the decision while writing this page now. -- Toby Bartels
The entire list is open to inclusion. Is there a reason, in what purports to be a complete list, to not be complete? -- RayKiddy
I see no reason to have a partial list. I also think it's POV of us to link the "major" candidates. We have no real basis that we're going by. LDan 02:14, 16 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- Our basis is that we do not have articles on non-famous people and subjects we cannot find enough independently verifiable information on to substantiate more than a stub. I'm sure enough info will surface on at least some of the unknowns by the end of the election to warrent having separate articles on those people. Until then we should only link to the notables. --mav

- At no point did Ueberroth register to run as an Independent. He has said he would be an "independent governor", but has kept his voter registration as a Republican.
I restored the list (which User:Stevertigo had deleted with a comment about copyvio). The information is in simple alphabetical order, as issued by the California Secretary of State. As such, SFGATE has no copyright claim on it. (If the very minimal descriptions are copyrighted, remove those, but not the names and party affiliations.) Vicki Rosenzweig 21:43, 16 Aug 2003 (UTC)

- I've looked at the California site. The list, including the descriptions like "publisher" and "no ballot designation requested" and the names in all-caps, are exactly as provided there. What exactly are you saying comes from SFGate? (They can pick up CA stuff, same as we can, and that doesn't give them any more of an exclusive claim than it would give us.)Vicki Rosenzweig 22:02, 16 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Did you look at the SFGATE site list though? The list itself and its descriptions come from SFGate, not CA state. True they cant really bitch about a list -- but its descriptions are copyright, and its obvious that the list came from there. It was easier to replace it with the one from CA (depite having to clean up all the format tags) -- which had more complete descriptions anyway. Sorry for the mixup Vicki. Someone anonymous added Jason Gastrich to the top of the list. I moved him down to his rightful place alphabetically. But can someone check if he's on the official California Secretary of State list? If so, how did he get left off? If not, he should be deleted. RickK 02:08, 22 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- He's not a certified candidate. He appears to be running as a "write-in" candidate. He won't appear on the ballot. No clue as to whether he couldn't get the signatures, couldn't pay the fee, or failed to meet his deadline. -- Someone else 02:17, 22 Aug 2003 (UTC)
