Kriminalpolizei, scope of article[edit]

The current title of this article, Kriminalpolizei, is rather misleading. If you check at Google [1], the results will reveal that Kriminalpolizei is still being used in German-speaking countries. Should we move this page to Kriminalpolizei (Nazi Germany) or something like that? <KF> 11:33, Jan 3, 2005 (UTC)

I would write the article on the modern day Kriminalpolizei before moving this page to the Nazi article. Also, if someone does move this article, we need to check the links to make sure all the SS and Nazi articles are not then pointing to the wrong article about the present day German police. Might even want to consider a disambig page. I think its a good idea, though. -Husnock 3 Jan 05

Followup to that on second thought. We could probably hav eone article dealing with both modern day and Nazi era Criminal Police. That would avoid redirects and disambig pages. I will work on expanding the article to include modern day usage of the term -Husnock 5 Jan 04

The Kriminalpolizei still/again exists in Germany and has the same tasks as it had in Nazi Germany (serious crimes). As far as I know it's a subsection of the usual Polizei (Police). The normal Polizei has a broader field of functions like watching the road traffic, secure demonstrations, prevent riots etc... Probably the Kriminalpolizei was restructured after the end of WW2. The Allies (American, British, French, Soviets) tried to replace the old Nazi-Officers with others which was quite complicated because really a lot Germans had been in the NSDAP and there wheren't enough trained people for these tasks.

Well, let me add some information: The Kriminalpolizei existed well before the Nazis and is/was not a "nazi organization" (unlike the SS, for example). However, the Kriminalpolizei was infiltrated by Nazi ideology like any other state organ (see Gleichschaltung). Currently this article is mostly about the Nazi times - so, in my opinion, 98% of the relevant content about the Kriminalpolizei and their work is still missing ... not to mention that the article is only about Germany, and not a word about Austria and Switzerland. So, I propose a major rework of this article. Anyone to volunteer? MikeZ 15:09, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As I understand the Kriminalpolizei do a simillar job to any other CID so i think there should be a link in the see also to general articles on police detectives and perhaps interpol/Europol. Also, I don't think the info about Fatherland should be in the article as is because the book is set in the 60's rather than the 30's/40's and because it could be seen as trivialising the section, I'm sure if you go on the UK equivalent it won't have info on DCI Hunt in a section about policing in the 80's(I've not looked so forgive me if it does).(Morcus (talk) 17:04, 7 May 2008 (UTC))[reply]
