Clean up[edit]

I put the clean up tag on this because I think it could do with some work. I'm going to be adding to it over the next week or so. I've rewritten the intro, added a pic, and have started to add his complete bibliography, although it's so long, I'm wondering if I should only select from it. Will keep working on it as time permits. SlimVirgin 04:55, Jan 11, 2005 (UTC)

Any criticism against Gellner is missing completely. His daughter's 'revelations' have nothing to do with the acclaimed 'critics' (presumably critics of his academic work). Negative traits of his personality should be treated differently and called such, rather than being misidentified as 'criticism'. I propose to delete these sentences about his personality and, instead, add a full paragraph summarising the criticism of his academic work by other scholars. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.170.235.74 (talk) 12:19, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Gellner's war service[edit]

Ernest Gellner interrupted his studies in 1944-1945 to serve with the 1st Czechoslovak Armoured Brigade, which took part in the siege of Dunkirk, then returned to Prague to attend university there for half a term.

Added book in bibliography[edit]

I´ve added the book Anthropolgy and Politics in the section books by gellner. I´m actually reading this book, and this is the firt time I took knowledge of him. So I added it... In this book I have they quote some other works of gellner with different names then the ones quoted in this page... But But I´m not changing it right now.

...and sorry for the crap english

this is it... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Feldsmann (talkcontribs) 18:33, 13 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

?[edit]

It was in the 60s that Gellner discovered his great love of social anthropology.

That's a quite extraordinary assertion, and requires citation. From memory he tracedhis his career choice for social anthropology, he dates his interest in the social anthropology of the Islamic world to around 1953, since at that date he perceived that understanding the functional ndynamics of the Arab world would be a critical necessity for the future.Nishidani (talk) 19:26, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Broken link[edit]

The Chris Hann obituary in The Independent is referenced several times, but the link for it goes to an LSE site and the link appears to be broken. Redound (talk) 01:08, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
