Dublin Shield[edit]

I have reverted your change to the Dublin shield as the one originally used is intended as only a shield with none of the extras (simple but clear) and also intended to complement the other cities in Ireland articles with similar layout. Djegan 21:09, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I have reverted the Waterford article for the same reasonas above. If you believe that their is reason for substitution of logos then i recommend that you present your reasons at Wikipedia talk:Irish Wikipedians' notice board in the first instance for discussion. Djegan 21:29, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Dublin[edit]

Common consensus among Irish Wikipedians was that for cities, we were to remain with traditional counties rather than current administrative ones. Therefore the maps being used are with county Dublin rather than the current administrative Counties.

I have reverted your changes to Skerries and Swords. If you would like this to change, please direct this desire to the Irish Wikipedians board. astiquetalk 14:26, 30 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please try discussion[edit]

The Irish Wikipedians' notice board is a good place to bring these matters up. There is another solution besides making a broad-based change to a template that works very well for every other city. astiquetalk 14:55, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Images[edit]

Hi. You need to tag the images you upload. Wikipedia:Image Copyright Tags has a list of them. The Irish government doesn't release stuff into the public domain. The size or quality doesn't negate copyright issues. Please tag municipal crests/logos with {{Coatofarms}}. Thanks. Secretlondon 12:38, 21 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've tagged all the crests/logos for you (the ones you uploaded anyway). We need to know the license we are using the photographs under. Thanks Secretlondon 13:00, 21 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

County Dublin/Dublin Region[edit]

I have made changes to the County Dublin article, in addition Dublin Region points to the former. I hope you can agree with the changes as it is obvious that County Dublin is no more, and yet still, I believe both can be presented in a consistent, accurate article that reflects the historical and modern realities. My rational for the changes is on Talk:County Dublin, and I would be grateful if you raised any questions/comments their before radical change or reversion. Djegan 22:18, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the better map, reupload it as Image:Map of the Dublin Region.png - it will take wikipedia a few hours to update and will over write my file - its not worth creating duplicates and also gives a history of the file. Djegan 19:37, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I made some remarks on the debate here about the fact that there seems to be no coverage in Wikipedia of the Irish regional government structure; feeble though it is, I think it deserves coverage. Do you think it would be worth having articles on the various regions, or one article on the system, or any other thoughts? Palmiro | Talk 17:24, 21 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Regional government in Ireland[edit]

Yes, the map is good, though I don't like that shade of red! One possible problem is that the pattern you have chosen for Northern Ireland has a slightly dazzling effect on my screen. I suppose for the article title either "Regions of the Republic of Ireland" or, my preference, "regional government in the Republic of Ireland". Palmiro | Talk 11:26, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Malahide[edit]

I noticed you recent edit of Malahide where you changed the infobox data showing Malahide as being in County Dublin to being in County Fingal. You are of course aware there are only 32 counties in Ireland (26 in the republic) and County Fingal is not one of them. I also saw that in the intro text it was you who originally changed the reasonably correct wording to indicate the same County Fingal assertion. [1]

My feeling is that it should, more accurately, state something like this: Malahide (from the Irish Mullach Íde) is a picturesque suburban village of Dublin City located in the administrative county of Fingal, a subdivision of County Dublin, Ireland.

IMHO the infobox should also be reverted to show the town in its correct county, however the Fingal county image could stay as that shows the subdivision of County Dublin correctly. Your thoughts? Cheers ww2censor 14:25, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you have done similarly for Balbriggan. ww2censor 14:29, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That is all very interesting about the counties but I understand that the 1984 Republic of Ireland Act that defines the 26 counties of Ireland still is the dominant law and that the three counties are only administrative, but until I can find better info to counter your erudite argument I concede to you better knowledge. However, despite there new counties I have never heard anyone saying there are 29 counties in the Republic. I must ask a friend who is a barrister what the legal standing is of these 3 counties. BTW, I did not make any changes, I just made the comments as I was not really sure about the standing of there counties. Cheers ww2censor 03:56, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Counties of Ireland[edit]

Hey, no problem. I did mean 1948, well actually 1949 not 1984. Unfortunately my barrister friend is not too good on the email replies but I will ask his opinion. He is particularly good on the nuances of Irish historical stuff. Thanks ww2censor 17:14, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Untagged image[edit]

An image you uploaded, Image:MHwik.PNG, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 00:28, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:LHwik.PNG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:LHwik.PNG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 16:54, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Balbriggan.PNG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Balbriggan.PNG. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 19:12, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:LocGovwiki.PNG[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:LocGovwiki.PNG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 05:03, 23 March 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 05:03, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:FingalCrest.png[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:FingalCrest.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Replaceable fair use File:WicklowCrest.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:WicklowCrest.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 15:25, 29 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
