Arkwright[edit]

Does anyone remember the first name of Arkwright in Open All Hours?

I believe Granville called him Albert in one of the episodes. Episode 6.4 "The Errand Boy Executive" to be precise.User:Hogtree

Spring clip[edit]

The article mentions that the register drawer is too tightly wound. But it's the spring clip, the clip that holds the money, that's too tight. In the pilot the spring clip slamming onto the money caused the drawer to shut quickly. They often shoved the drawer shut quickly after the spring clip slammed down onto a bill. Littlehampton[edit]

I'm still not really sure about this addition:

The programme was based on a shop in Norfolk Road, Littlehampton where Barker used to live near.

Although it has been correctly referenced, it seems somewhat speculative to me on the source - after all, the series was not written by Ronnie Barker, and his portrayal could have been based on any corner shop, really. Is there any interview or other page that suggests the Littlehampton corner shop was especially influential other than the town website? Bob talk 21:45, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'll take a look at it and see what I can pull together. On second glance I notice that this shows episode list uses information in addition to what you would see in a typical episode list so I want to make sure that I figure out the best way to format it. "northern shopkeeper"[edit]

Er, north of where exactly? Unless you live at the north pole, everywhere is north of somewhere. (The east end of London is several hundred miles south of where I live, so can I describe Peggy Mitchell as a "southern landlady"?)

If someone is from Doncaster (as Arkwright is) then describe them as such for heavens sake, instead of using some vague compass point. While I'm assuming good faith here, I think you're being a bit pedantic about this. I think you'll find that most people will understand what a "northern shopkeeper" refers to (well, if you're from the UK anyway!). 5 years between S1 and 2[edit]

Setting??[edit]

This article and the one for Still Open All Hours state (without a source) that the two series are set in Balby / Doncaster. I know that's the filming location for the shop exterior, but I don't think that's the same as it being "set" there. I would say it's just being used to represent a generic northern terraced street. Is there any instance of dialogue within the programmes that actually say where the action is supposed to be taking place? I don't recall any in the original run, but I haven't watched the revival.
