If anyone lives in or near Texola, I'm looking for some info and, if it's still around, photographs of an old hotel. I found a photo from 1916 of a hotel owned by my great-great-great grandfather, George Washington Pierce. If I have a chance, I will upload the photo to make it easier to find. It looks to be about three stories, with a pretty steep angled roof, a very large porch, with a balcony that goes the entire distance of the porch. It looks to be on a corner... If anyone has any information or other photos of this building, that would be a great help. Again, I'll try to get the photo online here in the next few days.

Status as a Ghost Town[edit]

I would think this town meets just about any definition of a 'ghost town'. I'm not sure when the town was founded but records show there were at least 361 citizens in 1910, down to 144 in 1974, and 47 in 2000. Many of the buildings that are still standing are abandoned. The last bit of business dried up after I-40 bypassed the town and Route 66 was no longer the main transportation route. Just browsing around it seems like there is a general consensus that Texola is though of as a ghost town:
