David S. Walton[edit]

Vanity article. User:134.181.37.132 (who briefly used the account User:Nywalton and then went back to the anon ip) has begun creating articles on himself and his entire family - Nathaniel Y. Walton, Alethea W. McCormick and David S. Walton. I've also warned 134.181 that he will be blocked if he keeps removing vfd notices. Gamaliel 20:01, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)

  • Despite this user's history of creating glowing articles about him and his family members, and also of repeatedly removing VFD notices, I'm a bit undecided about this one. If the claims regarding pediatric glaucoma are true and seeing his role in the Children's Glaucoma Foundation, he actually may be notable enough to keep. Of course, it would need to be rewritten, with all this glowing praise in every sentence cut out. I'd also prefer if some unrelated to the subject wrote the article. But given the user's history of removing VFDs and continuing to create these articles, I think it is unlikely he'd respond to our requests.   • I was able to find several medical journal articles he authored confirming that he is a specialist in pediatric glaucoma (such as [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]). I can not find any articles which cite his work, though, so I'm having trouble determining if he exceeds the average professor test. Abstain leaning toward delete. Family members should not write articles. It makes it too hard to keep the article true to NPOV. Rossami (talk) 02:38, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

  • I searched Web of Knowledge, and found 34 journal articles from a DS Walton affiliated with Harvard Medical School. Googling his name suggests he is an Associate Clinical Professor. So in academic terms, I don't feel that a sufficient case for exceptional notability has been made. Since it was a family member who wrote the original article, that tips the balance for me to delete. Average Earthman 12:23, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • I understand the dislike of vanity articles and vow not to do so again and endorse the deletion of Alethea W. McCormick and Nathaniel Y. Walton. However, I do feel that this article, curtailed appropriately, is appropriate. Dr. Walton is now a full Professor and one a few private physicians in that position at Harvard. Additionally, he is renowned leader in the fight against childhood glaucoma whose name is worthy if not necessary of publication on this site. Keep. Nywalton 08:12, 11 Dec 2004 (UTC)
