to complete the list, it would be good if someone went thru Attar's Tadhkirat ul-Owliya and listed the names he mentions on the list.

The list here is lacking.

For example, I dont see Suhrevardi's name here. Or Abu Saeed Abul'Kheir. Both giants of sufism.--Zereshk 08:28, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I can't find any Wikipedia articles on them. Although it's sometimes good to have red names on a list, it can excite expansion on a topic like when I got into turning red names blue at List of chinese painters, I get the sense too many on a List of people by belief is potentially risky at the moment. Also either way if they are giants of Sufism someone should start those articles someday. I hope you're sure Suhrevardi and Abu Saeed Abul'Kheir are standard transliterations of them.--T. Cleanup & Double Entries

Bullet list: style guidelines

Have removed the periods (full stops) from the end of each item for consistency.

"As a matter of style, list items should start with a capital letter. They should not have a punctuation mark such as a period, a comma or a semi-colon at the end, except if a list item is one or more full sentences, in which case there is a period at the end." August 2009

I have removed the name of ashraf ali thanwi who is not considered a sufi by many sunni scholars because of some phrases found in his book which contradict the sufi thought.Talk 0:25, 29 August 2009.

While there's no denying the critiques of Thanwi, those focus on whether he remained a Muslim or not, and not specifically on whether he was a Sufi. It would seem the proper rule for this list would be either self-definition, or definition by the individual's followers. For Wikipedia's purposes, a Sufi is someone engaged in the practice and teaching of Sufism, and is not synonymous with wali or saint, or even true believer. Thanwi wrote many books on Tasawwuf, and had many disciples in the Chishti-Sabiri tariqa. Most of his books were gathered into al-Takashshuf `an haqaiq al-tasawwuf. Removing a large number of people from this list

Per WP:NLIST, lists are not exempt from the WP:V policy which requires that all information be verified. Furthermore, WP:BLP states that we must be extra careful for information about living people, and very especially careful in personal issues (like religion, sexuality, etc.). As such, everyone on this list either needs their own Wikipage with clear information stating that they are a famous Sufi, or a reference proving such. I am going to remove every person on the list who has no wikipage, or who is redlinked. Please do not re-add anyone without a reliable source. Thanks, Qwyrxian (talk) 12:40, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Sufis?

I would very much like to know, who and how came upon the though that Abu Bakr(RA) was a Sufi? Or, Abadi Umar ar-Rida? Neither I have ever read anything like that, nor the respective articles in Wikipedia say anything about it.

Your list is full of names that have nothing to do with Sufism. Is Wikipedia a book of facts or a collection of made up fantasies?
